Good Behavior Review: I Think It’s A Sign (Season 2 Episode 4)

Good Behavior, Reviews

The early episodes of Good Behavior’s second season have been all about family, but on Good Behavior Season 2 Episode 4, “I Think It’s A Sign,” Letty’s criminal mind was on fully display.

Letty circling Agent Lashever for an exit to her predicament creates a great opportunity to explore Agent Lashever, played brilliantly by Ann Dowd as usual.

Having Lashever interacting with Letty was a nice change – since she spends her time chasing them. You never know what’s going to come out of Agent Lashever’s mouth and Letty is always ready for a curveball, so their interactions are unique and entertaining.

Through these conversations we learn more about Dowd’s character. In fact, I got answers to several questions I had about the character. Particularly about her anger and need to prove herself.

Her anger and frustration come from how much she hasn’t achieved in her career. It’s a feeling someone watching can understand and because she is not one of the series’ villains it is a redeeming quality.

I love seeing Dowd on Good Behavior, and even I thought Lashever took things too far on occasion. Her disdain for Letty and Javier is warranted because they are actually criminals, but Christian is a kind man.

While she could be seen as cruel, an understanding of the reason for her behavior grounds Dowd’s character in way that allows us to enjoy her zany behavior.

Her version of unethical behavior is bending the rules in order to apprehend criminals she has been after for a long time.

It also shed light on her relationship to Christian. I have wondered what her actually feelings for him are and the reason is she just so mean to him. She actually does have real feelings for him, which is seen in the tender moments they share in the hotel.

Even though they are surrounded by a motley crew of criminals and a young FBI agent who should definitely not be in the field.

As for Lashever’s treatment of Christian, he sees her the way she wishes her colleagues did and she works hard to ensure he continues to do so. Understanding that doesn’t make it okay, but now it all makes more sense.

In fact, it’s quite sad that she loves her work and is considered a joke by her employees. Furthermore, she sees Javier as her “white whale,” but in reality, he is far more concerned with the mystery of who wants him killed. Even after she has him in handcuffs.

When you think about the dogged law enforcement professional who is chasing a criminal, they are aware of one another. There’s a cat-and-mouse game. That isn’t the case here.

Understanding the character makes Lashever more than just her one-liners and attitude. During the hour, it was like watching her character become a full person right before the eyes of the viewer.

All of that is explored because Letty put her mind to work while handcuffed. We see what Letty was seeing in order to piece together her plan. In the past, we have watched Letty work, but this time she had no plan going into it. She had to think on her feet, a fascinating change.

Letty plots her course of action, which is getting the keys to the cuff from the young FBI agent, and much of her actual focus is placed there. That does not stop her from engaging in many conversations with Lashever.

In typical Good Behavior fashion, Letty escape attempt is ruined then something remarkable happens. Lashever being convinced by Letty to take her revenge on the FBI by using her and Javier is an incredible move on many levels.

Not only does it put all we learn about Lashever to use, but it shows off just how brilliant Letty is. Seeing how Lashever feels about her treatment at work and using that to get an FBI agent on her side shows how brilliant Letty is.

Then there’s what it means for future episodes.

After thoroughly enjoying Letty and Lashever’s interactions, we will definitely be getting more of that relationship. They are no longer running and chasing, but work together. The thought of the scenes to come is so exciting.

Additionally, there is the resurgence of crime. This season Letty and Javier has fought against of life of crime, but now they are back in. Committing crimes keeps them out of jail now.

  • I’m sorry but this was so unrealistic again. Like two episodes ago, when Javier still committed a murder for hire despite there being plenty of witnesses around, two of whom knowing where he and Letty live. Or last episode, when Letty stole money out of the hotel safes after Rob asked the victims of their hotel room numbers. Irl they would have been identified and taken into custody within a few hours even without the little girl interrupting Letty. Or unrealistic as this murder for hire business over this deep web. It seems to be super easy to hire Javier but the FBI took forever to catch him and needed his handle? I refuse to believe they couldn’t find him as easy as the people who hire him.

I still enjoy the show, mostly because of the interesting premise and the chemistry between the two lead actors but there are so many headshakingly unrealistic moments. The latest and greatest being during this episode when Letty convinced a long time FBI agent to risk her entire career and ultimately her freedom by going rogue for this vague plan of Letty stealing money for her and of course she releases the conwoman and a serial killer (!) for this cloudy idea! After a few sentences from a conwomans silver tongue she risks her whole life and betrays her profession for what? The notion of a few bucks and shaming her employer, the FBI? C’mon.

This isn’t brilliant by Letty, that’s just lazy unimaginative writing. Like the rest of the examples stated above.
