15 Reasons Why You Should Watch ‘Hart of Dixie’

Hart of Dixie, Lists, Pinned

Hart of Dixie (2011-2015) is a CW gem that went a bit under the radar, especially when compared to other CW shows at the time. For four glorious seasons, it entertained us with Rachel Bilson’s charm, southern men, quirky small town events, and so much more.

Since Hart of Dixie seems like one of those shows only a small number of people tend to talk about, for example, on Twitter, I wanted to put together a list of 15 reasons why I think you should watch this wonder of a show ASAP.

The whole show is on Netflix which means it is super convenient for you to start your binge-watch right away!

1. Bluebell, Alabama
Hart of Dixie
Hart of Dixie 1.01 – Pilot

Bluebell, Alabama is oozing with small town charm — the joys and griefs of knowing everyone in the place you live, town spirit, and taking care of your neighbors.

If you are a fan of Gilmore Girls and Stars Hollow, I bet you will love what Bluebell has to offer.

2. Zoe Hart
Hart of Dixie
Hart of Dixie 1.09 – The Pirate & The Practice

She’s funny, charming, stylish, and educated. She is also wonderfully awkward, prone to over-thinking, and indecisive.

She moves to Bluebell from New York and watching her getting used to life in a small town is so much fun, and the way she forms relationships with people she never expected to be part of her life is done incredibly well.

3. The storylines are often centered around interesting town events

I can’t help but once again make a connection between Gilmore Girls and Hart of Dixie because, like the former, the latter is filled with episodes focused around interesting and quirky town events.

There’s Planksgiving, the Bluebell version of Thanksgiving, the annual Miss Cinnamon Cider Pageant, Founder’s Day Parade, and more. I love how these events are intertwined with the ongoing storylines of the show, usually involving some big reveals about the characters and their relationships.

4. Zoe and Lavon’s friendship
Hart of Dixie
Hart of Dixie 1.01 – Pilot

Are you looking for a relationship between the opposites sexes that is purely based on friendship? If your answer is “yes,” look no further.

Zoe and Lavon are a brilliant duo — I love their inside jokes, how their senses of humor compliment each other, and how, at the end of the day, they are always there for each other.

5. Lemon Breeland’s character development
Hart of Dixie
Hart of Dixie 4.05 – Bar-Be-Q Burritos

Lemon Breeland is first introduced as an uptight, perfect Southern Belle who is pretty much the opposite of Zoe. In many ways, at first, Lemon is the trope-y “mean girl” who controls everyone and everything and places people under certain labels.

As the show develops, we get to know more about Lemon and her past. Through romantic reveals, failed relationships, and multiple attempts to find independence, Lemon grows into an incredibly relatable, multi-faceted character.
