Dark Matter Review: The Dwarf Star Conspiracy (Season 3 Episode 11)
Dark Matter Season 3 Episode 11, “The Dwarf Star Conspiracy”, brings together multiple story pieces as the Raza Crew starts to see a the bigger picture and how they are involved. We get a ton of answers to some pretty important questions, but are left with so many new ones.
Anthony Lemke has some remarkable scenes that steal the spotlight and create a more complex story as Three has to come to terms with something he rarely deals with – fear.

Lemke is amazing at what he does in these intense moments, and he ties together his character’s past experience and present gut-feelings so we as the audience can fully understand the level of complexity of what these revelations mean.
Three- “We’re suppose to gamble our lives based on that?”
Before they head down to NOVA-17, Two and Android have a much needed catch-up about what they both have recently learned and the impacts it has on their relationship. It’s nice to see this moment between friends after realizing just how much they mean to each.
Two- “I guess that’s something we have in common.”
Turns out Shaw’s backdoor program is still in place, and Two, Three, and Six head down to the lab to find out what Dwarf Star and Rook have been up too. He’s been quite busy as they see thousands of stasis pods with synthetic humans- just like Two.
Six- “There are a few more of them over here.”

Before they can investigate further, the Mikkei Combine show up to investigate the simulants, as the soldiers from Mikkei call them, and an anomaly they find in the base. They wake one of the simulants up and torture them in hopes to get information.

Two struggles with this as Commander Tarkanian talk about how these simulants aren’t humans and therefore are not privy to any rights. We can only imagine what is going on in Two’s mind as she has to listen and watch the hatred towards someone like her.
After a series of events with the Mikkei soldiers, we find out that Three’s fear is founded and that there is an alien invasion on the way. Lieutenant Sajen is one of these alien’s in the body of a simulant and the picture becomes clear.

Rook wasn’t creating these out of fun, but rather serving these aliens in another way, since his body would fail as a host without the nano technology. Five finds out that a dozen or so simulants were already activated and are currently involved with the different corporations armies, to what end we don’t know, but this doesn’t bode well for our crew.
Three- “Grass is always greener on the other side of an interdimensional portal?”
Of course the only answer to the gateway and the problem is to destroy it according to the Mikkei. They make the call to nuke the place, leaving the Raza crew watching as the lab blows up with Two still down there.
As the crew mournes, Android finds a FTL signature right before the explosion. Boone saved Two from uncertain death, but where is he taking her?
Stray thoughts:
- It is fun seeing Android coming into her own because it gives us these fun moments like when she starts singing boobs.
- Melissa O’Neil had some memorable moments as Two deals with the complexity of what her humanity really means.
- It is always great to see Kate Drummond!
- Now that we understand that Three was a host body last year, how will this affect any future interactions with these aliens?
- Joseph Mallozzi and Jay Firestone have come up with a brilliant way to add an alien to this universe!
