Dark Matter Review: My Final Gift To You (Season 3 Episode 12)
Dark Matter Season 3 Episode 12, “My Final Gift To You,” packs a punch, with secret revelations mixed in with some character development.
It’s a lot of information to take in, but we have faith our Raza Crew is able to pull through.
Alex Mallari Jr. is at his best in this Ryo-focused story, and though I have enjoyed him from the start, I am very impressed. Playing someone who everyone loves to hate can be a challenge, but he marvelously succeeds and I am secretly hoping for some redemption and for him to rejoin the crew.

Six: Ryo Ishida is a lot of things, but he’s not a liar.
Ryo has Boone capture Two after the explosion, and tries to offer her and the crew 30 million bars and secrets about their past in exchange for the blink drive. Notably, the crew is split with Three and Five wanting to take the money and find more about themselves whereas Two and Six remain loyal to the cause.
Two: The danger is in even giving him the opportunity to convince you.
Three, Five, and Six use transit bodies to go to Zarion in hopes of saving Two. Fortunately, Ryo shares these “gifts” with each crew member in a strategic move without them having to give him the blink drive.

Three learns that he was unintentionally involved with Sarah’s death due to his criminal activity. He purposefully gets his transit body killed so he doesn’t have to remember this. Five finds out who her sister is, a reveal that left the audience wondering who as she recognizes the photo that we cannot see. Six discovers that someone within the GA ousted him to the crew before their memories were wiped.
Ryo: That was an apology… my final gift to you.

The bombshell secret belongs to Two finding out that she and Shaw combined genetic material, resulting in a daughter. Even though each secret will have a major impact on our crew members, knowing she has a daughter could alter any future decisions Two makes as a leader.
Three: Looks like you get the deciding vote boss, what’s it gonna be?
Speaking of leaders, Ryo’s control over Zarion abruptly ends when Misaki turns out to be the snake we all predicted she is. The good news is that Two kills her just in time and holds true to her promise to Teku to save Ryo from his would be fate.
Android: The point is humans are inherently good.

Meanwhile, Android and a “Chase” look-a-like avatar discuss what the future holds for for their kind as he hints that there is a plan in place to overcome their human owners. Could we expect this to be part of the explosive finale or maybe part of hopefully Season 4?
Stray thoughts:
- Two is a badass and I still stand by that Melissa O’Neil is basically a goddess who can do anything and everything!
- Bruce McDonald directed the episode, which is no surprise since he has been behind the other episodes that were Four/Ryo focused as well.
- We know that Ryo struggled with his duty to the throne and his loyalty to his old shipmates, how will that play out now that he has been casted out by Zarion and he has betrayed his former crew?
- There are rumors that Five’s sister could be Alicia Reynaud, and while no one wants that given their history together – I would love to see Inga Cadranel again!
- Would love to see behind-the-scenes from this week’s sword fight between Two and Ryo!
