Dancing with the Stars Recap: Quarterfinals (Season 24 Episode 8)

Dancing with the Stars, Recaps

The dancers have two dances each on Dancing with the Stars Season 24 Episode 8, the Quarterfinals.

The first dance was with a song the pro thought represented their partner. The second dance was a trio, where each couple is paired with another pro assigned to them.

Read on for the details of the dances and to see who was sent home!

Rashad and Emma: Emma got the chance to gush about Rashad in the package before the dance. It was good to finally see some of Rashad’s personality in the show because up to this point we haven’t seen much.

Rashad danced a jive to “Shake a Tail Feather.” The dance was fun and moved quickly but there was some slight sloppiness in the footwork.

The stage was set up in a weird configuration with the audience against it that made the dance feel closed in — and hard to see. The judges harped on his need to pay more attention to his footwork.

Score: 36/40

Normani and Val: Normani shared the struggles she has had with online bullying before a contemporary dance to “Freedom.” Normani danced solo for part of the dance and was able to command the floor. She has become a dancer that can hold her own with professional dancers which was shown in this powerful routine.

The judges raved about the performance from a storytelling perspective as well as the dance. The leader from “A Night at the Movies” got a perfect score that will keep her on top of the leaderboard.

Score: 40/40

NORMANI KORDEI

Bonner and Sharna: Bonner was disappointed in his low scores last week and tried to improve with an Argentine tango to “Believer.” The dance was boring and, as always, Bonner’s dancing is more of him walking around the stage with Sharna and not much dancing.

The judges tried to give him tips to improve, except Len, who said he has gotten farther than he should on the show. I completely agree with Len — it’s hard to watch Bonner dance knowing that much better dancers went home.

Score: 30/40

Simone and Sasha: Sasha chose One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” and Simone groaned. After the criticism of needing to connect with each other, the week didn’t start well for the couple.

The foxtrot was a good dance, but it did not have the “wow” factor. The judges still want to see the real Simone and see her show more emotion throughout her dances. When getting her score, Simone said because she has been in the gym most of her life it is hard to show emotions she hasn’t experienced.

Score: 36/40

David and Lindsay: Lindsay chose Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” to represent David. David was moved by her choice and that in the short time they have known each other his values have shown through.

The waltz was a beautiful dance, and though David was not the best dancer he did a great job. The judges were impressed with the technique and the focus on the footwork. Len called it his best dance by far and the scores reflected that.

Score: 36/40

Rashad, Emma and Witney: The first trio dance was an Argentine tango by Rashad. It was a strong, powerful dance and Rashad and the girls felt very connected. Len emphasized his need to pay attention to his footwork. The other judges liked the choreography and teamwork of the trio.

Score: 39/40

TOM BERGERON, WITNEY CARSON, RASHAD JENNINGS, EMMA SLATER

Normani. Val, and Alan: This trio was a handful in their package. They did a country jive that was inspired by Bonner. Normani was the star of the dance and was often in front with both the guys in the back. It was a fun, sexy dance that also was a good jive.

The judges enjoyed it and her acting abilities. She can conquer both serious and fun dances without any problems. Len didn’t like when she stood on the judges table, but that is to be expected. Alan was a great addition to their duo and I really enjoy him on the show. Hopefully, Alan gets to be a pro next season.

Score: 39/40

Bonner, Sharna and Britt: Bonner’s dance was a jazz routine around the theme that Bonner is having an affair with two secretaries. In the package, Bonner wanted to include a move where he could slap both of the dancers butts.

Thankfully, that move was not included in the final dance.

Bonner was behind the girls for most of the dance and started out seated in a chair. Bonner is just not the quality of dancer that should be in the competition at this point. The judges commented on the hotness of the dance and Len said he “got all the steps.”

Score: 28/40

Simone, Sasha, and Brittany: Sasha said his goal was to have Simone dance like a professional dancer. The paso doble involved a lot of skirt swishing. Simone did a good job matching up to Brittany and did not bring her constant smile to the more intense paso doble.

The judges thought she still needed to work on extending and showing a connection to the dance rather than going through the motions. Len told her that based on scores she is his favorite but to get the coveted 10 she needs to step up. Simone was visibly upset by the criticism tonight so, hopefully, she works hard to stay in the competition.

Score: 36/40

David, Lindsay, and Hayley: This trio was fun-loving in their package but the paso doble was very intense. The judges did not like the dance. They mentioned that it was clumsy which was very evident from the beginning. You could tell that David had fun but the dance was not clean. At this point in the show the dances have to be better if you want to remain competitive.

Results: Rashad and Emma and Bonner and Sharna were the couples in jeopardy.

Bonner and Sharna were sent home. This was the right choice and I’m so glad that they were sent home. Bonner was obviously the weakest dancer for a few weeks. He was lucky to make it so far and did not deserve to go on to the semi-finals.
