Dancing with the Stars Recap: A Night at the Movies (Season 24 Episode 7)

Dancing with the Stars, Recaps

It is a double elimination this week on Dancing with the Stars, Season 24 Episode 7, A Night at the Movies.

The couples danced to bring to life a movie genre. The guest judge filling in for Julianne is choreographer, Mandy Moore. The couples also were challenged to go to head to head with a dance-off!

Read on for how the stars fared in movie themed dances and to find out which couples were eliminated.

Bonner and Sharna: Bonner, who is arguably the worst dancer remaining, tried to impress with a western-themed paso doble. Bonner’s dance was stiff and didn’t have much dancing. He looked like a robot and sometimes the moves seemed much too slow. The judges mentioned the lack of content for week 7 but mostly congratulated Bonner on making it so far. Bonner should be one of the two people to go home tonight.

Score: 29/40

Nancy and Artem: After being in jeopardy in Week 6, Nancy was ready to come out and impress the judges with a tango themed around romance movies. The tango to “Pretty Woman” started with some acting before going into a full tango.

The judges had a lot of small criticisms for Nancy, but I think this just means they know she can improve on these things. Other than the small comments on her posture, the dance impressed the judges. Nancy has continued to improve and is certainly in the running to make it to the finals.

Score: 36/40

NANCY KERRIGAN, ARTEM CHIGVINTSEV

Simone and Sasha: A Charleston to represent silent films is the dance that Simone was tasked with this week. Sasha’s choreography allowed Simone to show off her gymnastic abilities, and every time she gets an opportunity to do that, Simone’s dances are impressive.

She struggles with slower dances that require the emotional impact, but showing off her athleticism really works in her dances. The judges praised her fun, energetic dance and Mandy Moore commented on how she doesn’t connect in her performances.

Score: 37/40

Nick and Peta: With some tutoring from Maks, Nick danced an Argentine tango based on action movies. Nick continues to improve but still had moments where he struggled. The judges acknowledged this and told him he was finally becoming a dancer.

“When speaking to Erin, Nick said he was “dehydrated” but didn’t want to make excuses. He was disappointed with the pretty high score the judges gave him. I think Maks’ confidence and arrogance might have worn off on him.

Score: 34/40

Rashad and Emma: Rashad’s package seemed silly about how Emma choreographed a dance and Rashad came up with the horror story, but led into an amazing dance.

The paso doble did an excellent job of having a lot of dance content and still telling a story. Len called the dance “epic” and Carrie Ann commented on the need to focus on his posture. Rashad can win the competition if he continues to improve and bring these types of dances every week.

Score: 37/40

David and Lindsay: David was frustrated after last week, but the couple decided to just have fun and try their best for the remainder of their time on the show. The sci-fi salsa was fun from their package and throughout the whole dance. David is definitely one of the weaker dancers remaining, but he and Lindsay are so enjoyable!

Score: 32/40

Normani and Val: Val was disappointed with previous scores and listened to the judges criticisms of having more content. Normani suffered from a strained muscle and had to consider that in the choreography. The Argentine tango that represented foreign films was a stripped down performance.

The dance was all about Val and Normani, but that did not keep it from being an amazing dance. The judges raved about it being the best dance of the night and rewarded it with a perfect score! This gave Normani immunity so she didn’t have to participate in a dance-off.

Score: 40/40

Nancy & Artem/Simone & Sasha: The couples faced off to a cha-cha while viewers could vote. The judges said the two styles of cha-cha were hard to compare. I thought Nancy did a great job and Sasha might have had a few mistakes. But the judges and America all chose Simone and Sasha as the winner.

Rashad & Emma/David & Lindsay: The jive was chosen by David for this dance-off. Rashad had so many more steps than David and David struggled with some timing. The judges complimented the couples for the feel of having a full routine for the dance-off. Rashad and Emma unanimously won.

Bonner & Sharna/Nick & Peta: The couples danced a competing rumba. This was the most even matched of the dance-offs. I think both of these couples should go home but Nick is a better dancer. America and all the judges but Bruno chose Bonner and Sharna as the winner.

Results: Two couples going home meant that three couples were in jeopardy. Nancy, Nick, and David were in the bottom.

Nancy and Artem and Nick and Peta were eliminated. The results were a surprise again as they were not the worst dancers. David is so fun to watch, but is not as good of a dancer as Nancy! Bonner is the dancer who should have been eliminated based on his scores.
