The Flash Review: Attack on Central City (Season 3 Episode 14)
Grodd’s two-part return continues with The Flash Season 3 Episode 14, “Attack on Central City.” Last week, I didn’t want another episode about gorillas, and after watching this episode… I really could’ve done without it.
To sum it all up: not much happens, except the cliffhangers of the last few minutes.

One thing that did happen was that Barry proposes to Iris. After each have sweet moments where a proposal could’ve happened pretty naturally, Barry pops the question in the final minutes of the episode.
Of course, the scene cut before we hear Iris’ response.
I see no logical reason why she wouldn’t say yes, but that just means she can say no and have some weird reason that is just putting a road block in WestAllen. I worry if she does accept that something bad will happen (a la Felicity on Arrow).
Iris’ impeding “death” is sure to have an impact on her answer.

The other couple of the show, Wally and Jesse, tell Harrison Wells that Jesse wants to stay on our Earth. Harrison fakes his support then tries to lie about being ill to guilt Jesse. Though I’m not sure Harrison actually admits to lying.
I didn’t remember Harrison being so mean last season. But in this episode I dislike him. H.R. has become my favorite Wells, no doubt.
As for Harrison, why doesn’t he stay on Earth 1 with his daughter? What does he have to go back to on Earth 2?
Cisco finally has a budding romance! Seeing Cisco and Gypsy interact was my favorite part of the episode.
Unfortunately, Gypsy did not follow Jesse’s lead and say she wanted to stay on Earth 1. But I hope she comes back for Cisco’s sake. Cisco lamenting on his lack of love interests captures how I feel about the character. Cisco deserves love!
The last few episodes the most fun part has been H.R. He is fascinated by Harrison and their differences. Tom Cavanagh is doing an amazing job portraying both characters. H.R. was a delight to watch passing out the “Friend’s Day” cards.
When the battle with the gorilla army finally happens, Barry won’t let Grodd be killed because he has morals. So they send Grodd off to be held, where he will surely outsmart his captors. One day Grodd will be back terrorizing Team Flash, and I hope it’s an episode I miss.
The Flash does a good job of hooking me at the end of most episodes. This one is no different with the proposal and Wally running into Savitar. But even with these final scenes this episode was boring.
I really try to enjoy The Flash every week but this episode just didn’t cut it. It’s not the concept of gorillas that are smart attacking, I’ll gladly watch a fun, ridiculous episode. But “Attack on Central City” forgot how to be fun.
Quick Thoughts
- Iris gets nothing to do in this two parter.
- I missed Julian.
- The Weird Al reference was so unexpected, but funny.
- This was a Valentine’s episode airing two weeks late?
- I hate Grodd.
