Shadowhunters Review: Iron Sisters (Season 2 Episode 6)
Addiction, betrayal and new friendships sums up Shadowhunters Season 2 Episode 6, “Iron Sisters.”
I have many, many feelings about this episode, so let’s start with my first thought – Izzy and Aldertree. Izzy has wanted to see the Iron Sisters in person ever since she was a child, and now that she has the chance it’s completely ruined because of Aldertree.
What is Aldertree up to exactly by tricking Izzy and getting her addicted to vampire venom? Other than using the fact that he is the only access to the drug to get Izzy to do is biddings, why else would he be doing this? The only thing I can come up with is that he is evil.
Aldertree is pure evil.
But, I do give Izzy major friend bonus points. Even though she is going through withdrawals and knows that lying to Aldertree isn’t a good thing, she still doesn’t rat Clary out about the rune.
On top of getting Izzy addicted to vampire venom, he is also blackmailing Jace by threatening to reveal the fact that he has demon blood inside of him. Jace has proved his loyalty time and time again. He may not be entirely loyal to the clave, but he is not on Valentine’s side.
I also don’t like how Clary treats Izzy when she informs her it might not be safe to get into the water. Your father is Valentine, your brother has demon blood in him, and it’s your dad who did that to Jace. Why would someone trying to look out for you upset you?
The good in this episode? Simon and Maia’s new friendship. This is a friendship that I hope we get to see played out for the rest of the season.
It’s refreshing to get to see Simon enjoying his life again. It may be under the wrong circumstances, but watching Simon joke, laugh, and genuinely be somewhat happy made the entire episode for me.
My favorite part, by far, is Simon smirking in the car when Maia mentions that she tried to kill Jace.
Simon and Maia may be two different people – vampire and werewolf – but that doesn’t matter when it comes to helping someone they both love. It also helps that Maia has gone through what Simon is currently going through.
Simon feels like an outcast. Everything in his life is going wrong, and Maia is very familiar with that feeling. She even has her own father-like connection with Luke.
Ever since Maia was introduced, I’ve known that I was going to end up liking her. Her fashion sense, attitude, and smugness is something that I find interesting and can relate to.

If I’m completely honest, I’d be okay with Simon and Maia becoming a thing. I know, I know, they just met each other. I don’t want them to get together right away, but if they ended up getting together, I think it would be a pretty good match.
Anything to make sure Climon doesn’t become a thing.
Last, but certainly not least, Malec. To say that I lit up every time Magnus and Alec share the screen together is an understatement. We have not gotten enough of the two of them together this season, and this episode makes up for it.
Magnus using an emergency call to get Alec to go on a date with him is the cutest thing ever. It’s not only that he wants to see Alec, but it’s also that he knows Alec needs something to take his mind off of the death of Jocelyn.
It may have taken a season and a half, but it was worth the wait to watch their first date. It’s no secret that Magnus is way more experienced in the love area, but Alec’s face when he revealed he’s been with 17,000 people is /pure gold/.
My favorite part about the first date is that it isn’t all lovey-dovey. It’s real and raw. Alec is seriously considering where he can see this relationship going when he isn’t confident enough to be with someone as experienced as Magnus.
Relationships take a lot of effort, and that’s something that Alec is learning.
Alec is finally learning how to take what he wants and to stop worrying about what other people think. He’s lived his entire life as a lie, and that’s going to stop right now.
“Iron Sisters” is the exact type of episode that I look forward to seeing every week.
Other Thoughts:
- What does that rune mean? Izzy almost loses it when she see’s Clary use it, and Cleophas kills another Iron Sister before revealing that she has the same rune on her neck.
- The clave banning all downworlders from the Institute sounds very familiar to what’s happening in the real world right now.
- I love Jace, but why did he have to interrupt the Malec kiss?
- Imagine this: Jace and Simon both moving into Magnus’ place. That would be good quality content that I would watch.
- Never forget: Aldertree is a lying snake.

Actually Cleophas revealed the circle ⭕️ group mark on her neck.
Jace “interrupted” because Aldertree told him to leave or the rest of the clave would find out.
