Jane The Virgin Review: Chapter Fifty-Three (Season 3 Episode 9)
It looks like there’s some trouble in paradise for Jane and Michael – but that’s normal in a marriage, right?
On Jane The Virgin Season 3 Episode 9, titled “Chapter Fifty-Three,” Jane and Michael have trouble relieving their stress to one another which brings some tension between them.
So far, we’ve seen Jane and Michael be a lovable, supportive, and less-arguing couple on the show – one who makes you want a relationship just like theirs.
But with Michael’s sudden interest in pursing law and preparing for the LSAT, his patience gets tested.
Jane is always the type to be open and speak up when she isn’t feeling comfortable about certain things, but when she tries to present that to Michael, his reaction is rather surprising. He has a mini freak -out.
Their relationship has been growing stronger this season, and a lot has changed for them so far.
I love the way that the writers are able to have them quarrel for a bit, get all weird and uncomfortable with each other, only to have them make up and get all cute towards the end.
It’s your typical Jane and Michael relationship, and they really prove in every episode of Jane The Virgin that they can make it work.
Just because you have those ups and downs it shouldn’t determine how everything will be in the future.
Thanks a lot to Bruce for freaking out Jane about what it will look like once Michael actually does go to law school.
NOT.
Meanwhile, Rafael is feeling vulnerable and disheartened by the reveal of his father’s will, stating that his shares will only go to his biological children.
The storyline surrounding Rafael’s life has been nothing but a mess so far. I just hope it gets better for him, because remember when they were going to have Rafael focusing on himself this season and being happy without Jane?
Yeah, it’s been an unhappy moment after another for him.
Rafael can’t even have a regular relationship with Catalina, because she is so untrustworthy and he doesn’t need that right now. At all.
Speaking of Catalina, she makes a wrong deal with Petra. However, she later ends up telling Rafael about Petra’s plan with all of her surveillance cameras when she begins feeling guilty for playing him.
I mean, props to her for speaking the truth, but I still dislike her for going along with a potential plan of betrayal to Rafael. Not cool, girl.
Catalina decides to leave soon after Rafael tells her she isn’t good for him. So I guess she is officially gone now.
Although, something tells me that she will be coming back. That goodbye seemed way too easy and a tad bit subtle.

Jane The Virgin is not Jane The Virgin without Rogelio’s comic relief. He is honestly the highlight of this show and the very reason why I love tuning in every week.
He’s been a little caught up in the love department right now, with potentially having a baby with Darci, and catching feelings for her as well.
His scene with Darci on their first date together is comical.
Him mentioning that you don’t need to know someone all at once on a first date was the funniest thing ever. Something most people would actually agree with, too.
I honestly miss Rogelio and Xo together. They complimented each other so well, and their presence as a couple was nice to watch. Maybe somehow the show will be able to pull them back together towards the end of the season.
One can only hope, right?
Stray Thoughts:
- Petra is finally seeing a psychologist with Rafael’s help, and I think she very much needs it. It never hurts to have someone there to let it all out.
- The scene between Jane and Alba, about her final novel, was touching to watch. Although Alba’s past was something she desperately wanted to keep away, Jane was able to turn it into something beautiful with her marvelous writing and storytelling.
- Michael’s allergic reaction to the essential oil was frightening to look at. How huge was that?!
