Conviction Season 1 Episode 13, “Past, Prologue & What’s to Come,” finally allows viewers to see the tricky past that Wallace and Hayes have.

It turns out, Hayes and Wallace went head-to-head on one of Hayes’ cases nine years ago, and thus started the rocky future. You never expect for a random hookup in an elevator to be more than just that, but love is what blossomed for Wallace and Hayes.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Hayes and Wallace’s relationship and watching them admit their genuine love to each other is amazing, but my favorite part of the episode is Sam.

CONVICTION - "Past, Prologue & What's to Come" - Hayes revisits the failed case of Gerald Harris from her days as a defense attorney - the very case where she met Wallace nearly a decade earlier. Harris was found guilty of murdering his wife despite Hayes' belief in his innocence due to Wallace unearthing Gerald's darkest secret. Meanwhile, a member of the CIU team is forced to revisit their illicit actions in the controversial Rodney Landon case. In the end, Hayes and Wallace's future, as well as that of the CIU team, hang in the balance, on "Conviction," SUNDAY, JANUARY 29 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network. Just when I think that Sam is going to get what’s coming to him, Hayes jumps in the middle and doesn’t allow him to be fired. And in the end, she may have just put her relationship with Wallace in a dangerous place.

You can’t admit your love for someone and then hours later be kissing your co-worker.

I get where Hayes is coming from by kissing Sam, but it’s disgusting. I yell at my TV screen when she kisses him. For a hot moment, I think that this is some plot twist that’s being thrown at us.

Thank gosh it’s just to get Sam to keep his job at the CIU. But, it’s still gross. Why would Hayes even want him to continue working for them?

Sam has done nothing but cause trouble for everyone since joining the CIU. He’s never on anyone’s side about anything and is always looking out for himself. The CIU was never something that he should’ve joined with how pessimistic he is.

Rodney Landon is only in jail because Sam went around the law and made sure that he stayed there. Should Landon be in jail? Yes. Should he be there because Sam took justice into his own hands? No.

He did something illegal that could put everyone involved with the CIU in real trouble. Yes, Hayes is the one who took the case and kept pushing for it. But, she didn’t make him go behind everyone and make sure Landon attacked someone while still locked up.

Sam deserves to be disbarred for what he did. He deserves to pay for his actions.

I feel like the only reason he pushes to keep looking for suspects in their case is that he can feel that something is about to happen after Hayes got his subpoena canceled. Deep down he knows that something drastic is about to happen.

He is never the one who voluntarily offers to keep looking for other suspects. Instead, he always wants to keep the people already locked up in jail.

Hayes takes it personally when she is informed that Sam needs to be fired for his actions, but she shouldn’t.

Overall, this season finale isn’t what I was expecting. The cliffhangers themselves aren’t that big, and it seems as if the episode just glides on by quickly.

A part of me feels like the showrunners knew that they weren’t going to get a season 2 no matter what, but still wanted a cliffhanger thrown in just in case. Either way, Sam keeping his job at the CIU isn’t so much of a cliffhanger that it makes me want a season 2 immediately.

Would I like a season 2? Yes, I think that they could shake up the way the show runs and make it more enjoyable. But, a cliffhanger that relies on Sam and her relationship with Wallace isn’t big enough to do that.

Hayes and Wallace are always going to have complications in their relationship. It’s just who they are.
