Conviction Review: The 1% Solution (Season 1 Episode 5)
Conviction Season 1 Episode 5, “The 1% Solution,” comes back with a bang after a break last week.
This show is finally picking up, and I am starting to enjoy it immensely. Getting past the first few episodes of a show are rough if you don’t automatically find it appealing, but shows like Conviction show why it’s a good thing to stick it out.
This week’s episode is fast paced, keeps my attention the entire time, and has me cheering for Hayes Morrison.
I’ve said it once, and I’m going to say it again; I didn’t like Hayes at first. She was your typical spoiled brat who did whatever she wanted with no consequences and no care in the world.
Now, however, I see real development come from her as she realizes that you can’t continue to go off the rails whenever you please and still expect people to stick by you.
Jackson kicking Hayes out of his apartment does just that to Hayes; it opens her eyes. It makes her aware of just how self-centered she is being and shows her that she needs to change it immediately.
Hayes willingly goes to her mother for advice, which shows me that she is trying to grow up, that she wants to be better, and that it’s hitting her that she needs to change for the better for herself and everyone around her. At the beginning of the season you couldn’t have paid Hayes enough money to go to her mother for advice, now she is the one making the call willingly and asking for help.
Along with her eyes opening to her misdoings, she and the CIU are now working more efficiently together.
Maybe sleeping in the office after being kicked out of your apartment does that to you. Who knows.
What I do know is that I like the vibe I get from all of them together as a whole.
There’s still a long way to go for the CIU in general, but we can easily tell that it’s more than just a job now, for most of them. It’s getting personal and the longer they work together, the more they will all open up with each other.
The feeling I get when I watch shows like Criminal Minds, and Law & Order is the feeling I get when watching this episode. Granted, they aren’t as tight as the crew on the other shows, but they are getting there one episode at a time, and I’m glad to be along for the ride.
Other Thoughts:
- The fact that Frankie trusts Tess enough to have her look at Rey’s appeal proves just how far they are coming together. Frankie’s storyline has been a question I’ve had since the beginning of the season, and it looks like we’re finally going to get it; Frankie trying to come to terms with his sexuality and if he is really in love with Rey is going to be an interesting thing to watch come together.
- Jackson finally contacting Hayes back makes me so happy because he see’s just how much she cares and wants his forgiveness. Wallace on the other hand, I can see where he is coming from, but at the same time he willingly broke the law for Hayes and can’t blame everything on her. He had to know that something was bound to happen.
