Frequency Review: Bleed Over (Season 1 Episode 4)
On Frequency Season 1 Episode 4, “Bleed Over,” we meet another one of the Nightingale’s victims, Eva. No, she’s not a nurse. She just witnesses her mother being taken by the Nightingale.
I like how we are exploring the various facets of the Nightingale case. The focus is not just on the nurses that he takes, but also on the family members left behind.
Emotion is where Frequency excels. The scenes between Raimy and Frank where the two of them are opening up or just being there for one another are amazing. Raimy finally tells Frank about Daniel, and he gives her fatherly advice, and it is such a touching scene.
Raimy and Eva also have a heart to heart. They share a lot in common, and talking to Eva makes Raimy really start to reflect on her own situation. She is still in the mindset that she will get her mom back, so grieving is not something that is on Raimy’s mind. Eva forces Raimy to really think about her loss.
The only relationship that is not fully clicking for me yet is the one between Frank and Julie.
We are meeting them at a strenuous time in their relationship, but it would help to see the spark that was once there between them. It could be a small moment between them, a family scene with Raimy, a flashback, something that shows why these two got together in the first place.

Right now, it’s hard to tell if we should be rooting for them to get back together. They are just sort of there, and it would be nice to be able to feel some way about them.
Honestly, I find Julie and Frank’s relationship a little meh. I do not enjoy their scenes together. They bore me because I’m not attached to them.
As soon as Eva, in the present, says she was taken by the Nightingale, my eyes roll. It is wayyy too coincidental, and I was honestly afraid that the show was going to go there. Thankfully, it does not.
Eva craving attention is a much better storyline. We still get answers on the Nightingale without making everything tie into his kills.
It is worth noting that I wouldn’t have been surprised if the show went this route. I’ve lost some faith in Frequency, but this installment does a good job of slowing restoring it. It still is not the most riveting hour of TV, but it is a huge improvement from Frequency Season 1 Episode 3.
Gordo: You are a ham radio enthusiast!
Raimy: I’m working a case.
Gordo: With the other nerd cops?
Another thing that is great is that there isn’t some big butterfly effect at the end. Frank doesn’t save the day in 1996, rendering everything Raimy did moot. Progress is still made without having to noticeably alter the timeline once again.
I know we are only 4 episodes in, but I feel like every episode so far has had some major timeline altering happen, so it is nice that it does not happen this time around.
Raimy and Frank still change things (the Nightingale burns his truck), but it is not like we watch Raimy experience time changing. We may never know the effects of the truck burning, and that’s okay. We do not need every action to cause some major changes in the present.
What did you think of this episode of Frequency? Gordo is a hundred percent my favorite character. Who is yours? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
