Pretty Little Liars: Top 8 Moments from The DArkest Knight (Season 7 Episode 10)

Pretty Little Liars, Reviews

Wow! The summer finale of Pretty Little Liars left us with a bang, and as much in the dark as were at the start of the season.

So much happens in this hour that 7B is sure to be very eventful as I. Marlene King and company attempt to answer all the outstanding issues in the final ten episodes.

While the finale may have raised more questions than answers, it also crossed off a few people from our A.D. suspect list, and made our hearts aflutter with some of the relationship advice.

Here are the Top 8 Moments from “The DArkest Knight.”

1. Hanna Goes Rogue…Until The Test Results Come Back

Let’s be honest. Hanna hasn’t had it easy. She’s been kidnapped, shocked, and generally put through the ringer. However, you’d think the Liars would have learned by now that their guts don’t always lead them down the right path.

While it is great to see Hanna take charge, we’re glad she doesn’t take it too far. She wants justice, not vengeance. Thee Liars have evidence that connects Noel to the Dollhouse, yet, she wants Noel to admit to all of all it.

As she says: putting Noel away for the Dollhouse would be like arresting a mob boss for tax evasion. Not enough.

When Hanna gets the DNA results back from the lab and she finds that Noel’s not a match, she clues her friends in. It doesn’t exonerate Noel or his role in The Dollhouse, but he isn’t the big bad they’re after and he isn’t the person that held Hanna hostage, as far as we know.

It’s not the first time one of the Liars has “gone rogue” but it might be the first any one of them has done something that would get them charged as an adult.

2. The Return of Mona

Seeing Mona return to the screen made us jump with glee. We always say that the Liars would have an easier time figuring things out if they trusted her and her mad skills.

So, the fact that Hanna calls her and not one of the Liars makes sense. Mona avoided being discovered as “A” for two years. It seems like she would be the one to call in this case.

And yes, we admit to being suspicious that Mona showed up and instead of watching Noel, she and Caleb tailed Jenna, which allowed Noel to escape. Call us crazy, but that sounds like a bad plan unless you’ve made sure that Noel would be unconscious.

 3. Marco Fury Underestimates Jenna

Fans of Pretty Little Liars are always a little suspicious of new blood. Cops are no exception. Marco Fury came in a couple episodes ago and seems to be as incompetent as almost every other cop that has come through Rosewood.

Of course, he’s new, so he has no idea that when he asks how much of a threat a blind girl can be, he’s really putting his foot in his mouth.

It sounds crazy, but when you consider that Season 7B will probably open with Spencer going to the hospital and Mary Drake or someone else having to explain that Jenna shot her, he may wish that he stayed wherever he came from.

4. Alison’s Big Surprise

Alison’s deadpan delivery of the results of her pregnancy test is the cherry on top of an episode of insane reveals. It’s only a couple minutes, but in retrospect we probably should have seen this coming.

Did anyone really think that Archer was just going to fade away into the background? Does Archer’s kid factor into A.D.’s endgame?

5. The Haleb Reunion Scene

Hanna and Caleb find their way back to each other, finally, in the most adorable way possible. No one can deny that Caleb cares for Hanna, but the way that he confronts her about her lies this episode was the perfect way to set her straight.

Casually slipping in the fact that they’re meant to be together between her inability to do dishes and sending food back if the waiter breathes on it funny is a moment of brilliant writing – and great acting on the part of Tyler Blackburn.

It was real and honest. Try and tell us you don’t want a partner who will accept you for all you are, including your list of faults. Even if one of those fault is complete blindness to the fact that you’re “meant to be.”

5. Noel Kahn’s Death

The signs were all there. Noel wasn’t going to make it out alive. Between Hanna abducting him and being in a house with Jenna and a gun, it just didn’t seem like the odds were in his favor.

We just didn’t expect it to be an accidental beheading that did him in.

His death left us with a lot of unanswered questions. What was he doing back in town? What was his deal with Jenna? Did he kill Sara Harvey?

6. Jenna’s Got a Gun

At the risk of sounding like Detective Fury, who thought it was a good idea to give Jenna a gun? We spent most the last act of this episode hoping that the Liars didn’t breathe so Jenna wouldn’t fire.

Of course, that was probably the point of these theatrics.

But, the rule of Chekov’s Gun applies. Guns will go off, and in this case the bullet hit Spencer.

When you consider how accurate Jenna would be able to aim, Spencer is lucky. It looks like a shoulder wound when it could have been a shot to her stomach or her head.

7. Spencer is a Drake

After Spencer gets shot, and someone, presumably Mary, knocks Jenna out the Liars rush in and see Mary sitting on the floor next to Spencer. In that moment, Mary confesses that she’s Spencer’s mother.

In “Exes and OMGs” there is a lot of speculation about who the second Drake child is. Different characters chase down leads and ironically enough, no one can remember the gender of this child. Convenient yes, but it makes sense now. (Like, the fact that Spencer is a gender neutral name!)

Of course, in the same episode, there’ a brief scene where Spencer is looking at a Hastings photo album. It seems odd because she’s looking at baby pictures, but for a micro-second she seems to realize something. It’s never explained or expanded on, but it got us thinking.

Jessica was a twin, and it was already established that Jessica and Spencer’s father were having an affair. So Spencer and Jason were already half siblings. There could be a case of mistaken identity here and we are really looking forward to the explanation.

The Dilaurentis/Drake family tree is getting almost as complicated as The Charmings’ in Once Upon a Time.

8. A.D. Kidnaps Jenna

As if the last few moments of this finale weren’t heart pounding enough, the episode closes with Jenna on the floor of a van being driven by someone in a hoodie. This person is A.D and of course, their face is shielded from view.

Jenna just shot Spencer, and compared to Hanna’s abduction at the end of Season 6, we’re less worried about the character and more worried about the fact that our suspect list has now dried up.

So, if the Liars are all at the defunct school for the blind with Mary Drake, Toby and Yvonne are unconscious, Noel Kahn is dead, and Jenna has been taken by A.D. who does that leave as a suspect?

We won’t know until Pretty Little Liars comes back with their last ten episodes in April of 2017.
