Questions That Had Better Damn Well Be Answered on the How to Get Away With Murder Season 3 Premiere

How To Get Away With Murder

Fans of ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder are no strangers to cliffhangers. The first season ended with the resolution of one murder plot only for another to be zipped up in a suitcase almost immediately after.

While cliffhangers at the end of Season 2 weren’t as inimitably climactic, they were just as dramatic, with more than a few slugs of Pinot Noir to be had before the final credits and leaving us thirsty for more.

Here are five six of the most pressing questions that this show had better damn well answer by the time those end credits roll.

1. Where Did Frank Go?

Last season, we found out that Frank is indirectly responsible for the death of Annalise’s only child, Sam. While Annalise may have accepted and forgiven the universe for taking her baby, she’s probably not going to cut Frank the same healthy chunk of slack.

Viewers got the heart-squeezy goosebump moment of the series when Laurel calmly walks into Frank’s bathroom to find… nothing. In a show the internet affectionately calls “Annalise and the Murder Babies,” the fact that Frank wasn’t dead was more of a surprise. So where is he? Packed up his clothes, left the good vodka, and skedaddled. But to where? We had better damn well find out.

2. Will Laurel and Wes “accidentally” hook up again?

While on a stakeout searching for answers about Wes’ past, operating on very little sleep, Laurel and Wes lock lips, providing one of the most “oh, good lord” moments of… well, that particular episode. In the season finale, the kiss is barely referenced, but causes enough tension between former power couple, Frank and Laurel, that Frank books a ticket on the next train to Georgia.

These are two people who could not be more opposite. Wes is, let’s be honest, a little self-absorbed, though he has every right to be. Life hasn’t been easy for this kid. Laurel is ambitious, fiery, optimistic, unselfish, the possible daughter of a drug kingpin. But this show has gotten so good at milking the drama from unlikely couples that any result had damn well better be wine-sippingly good.

3. Did Caleb actually kill himself?

Not really a pressing question as much as it is something I was wondering. Again, there’s a murder every week. Even when we see the body, we know there’s more to the story. So, whether the writers killed him off because the Hapstall murder storyline was dragging on AF or because they have more stories to tell, I know we had damn well better be told.

4. What Will Connor’s Reaction to Oliver’s Betrayal Be?
That’s called a zeugma, folks.

The season finale sees Oliver calling up Stanford to politely and respectfully decline Connor’s acceptance (and their only ticket out of Murderville) on Connor’s behalf… without telling Connor. Like all Coliver moments, the scene ends with the couple biting each others’ tongues while simultaneously biting their own.

Connor’s not exactly known for his cool and rational responses, making Oliver the collected, reasonable one in the relationship. So what happens when the reasonable one makes a rash decision? There had damn well better be some fireworks.

5. How Long Will Doucheboo and Michaela stay away from each other?

Doucheboo (n.): A guy who acts like a complete fratboy asshat in public but secretly makes a wonderful boyfriend. (ex. Asher Millstone, antonyms: Ryan Lochte).

During a drunken moment of what can only be described as lack of judgment, prim and proper neurotic Michaela finds herself on the bathroom sink standing very close to our resident Doucheboo, Asher. Then, in the season finale, she gives in again, this time without the influence of anything but actual desire.

Unlike Wes and Laurel, this is a couple that actually makes sense on a sort of fundamental level. Both have rich, socialite parents that ask too much of them and a tendency to give their hearts away too quickly.

Thus, the question here isn’t a matter if they will hook up again, but when. There had damn well better be at least one neurotic smash session in Annalise’s office come October.

6. Who shot Wallace Mahoney, and why?
The plot—and the blood on Wes’ face—thickens…

The season finale’s most exciting cliffhanger sees Wes approach the man he found out only an episode ago was the one to whom he owes his existence. “I think I’m your son,” Wes manages to squeak before BLAMMO!

Within two seconds, we’ve got our murder mystery for the next 15 episodes and it is a doozy. The big reveal that Wes is not Annalise’s son but instead the offspring of a rich and powerful One Percenter took two seasons to build up only to have it shot in the head.

So the question becomes, who shot him? Is Wes in danger, too (likely) or did he just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? (unlikely). Someone had damn well better clean up this mess, so help me.

Are there any more pressing questions that I missed? Let me know in the comments, and tune in to How To Get Away With Murder currently streaming on Netflix.

Season 3 begins September 22 on ABC.

  • do you watch this show…? it has been revealed that michaela is from the ‘backwoods’ aka not a rich socialite. too, she *almost* hooked up with asher again in the finale, but refrained after a few moments. sighhh.

    • Full disclosure, my friend and I are usually 3/4 into a bottle of wine (each!) by the time HTGAWM airs at 10. So while I have seen every episode, I do have the occasional memory lapse. Thanks for keeping me honest!
