12 ’90s TV Shows We’re Still Totally Obsessed With
These shows defined the nineties, but the passage of time never dulls our love for them.
One minute we’re flipping through the channel, and the next we’re getting sucked into a rerun binge. What can we say? We’re obsessed!
Here are 12 ’90s TV shows we’re still totally obessed with.
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
What began as the television show with the weird name quickly became a cult hit that defined a fledgling WB network. Now, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is hailed as one of the greatest television shows of all time.
It’s because it has stood the test of time. The dialogue is still sharp, funny, self-aware, and smart. More importantly, the lessons Buffy and The Scooby Gang learned still apply today. It’s as relevant to me now as a 30-something mother as it was to me then as a 16-year-old girl.
2. Friends
Six friends and a coffee shop turned out to be one of, if not the biggest, comedy hit of the nineties. We loved Friends because we felt like one of them. We’re the seventh, unseen and unheard, Friend, laughing along with them.
Not to mention it’s forever quotable with lines like, “How you doin’?,” “We were on a break!” and, my personal favorite, “PIVOT!” No matter how much time is past, a Friends episode always feels like coming home.
3. Seinfeld
It was a show about nothing, but Jerry Seinfeld turned the mundane into the hilarious captivating. One of the best episodes was “The Parking Garage” where nobody can find their car. Watching Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer complain about their lives is the perfect escape from our own.
4. Beverly Hills 90210
No show really defines the nineties more than Beverly Hills 90210. From the clothes to the social awareness, watching the crew from 90210 is like opening a time capsule to the finale decade of the 20th century. In fact, there was an episode about a time capsule. Beverly Hills 90210 is the mother from which all teen shows are born.
It mastered soapy drama combined with real issues like AIDS, date rape, and drug & alcohol abuse. Whether you are Team Brenda or Team Kelly, watching this show never gets old. For the record… Team Brenda is the right answer.
5. ER
It’s the best medical drama of all time. Period. More importantly, it’s the show that gave us George Clooney. It will live forever. We will watch it until the end of time.
6. The Wonder Years
Odd that a show about the sixties winds up on a list about the nineties, but facts are facts. This show is utterly bingeable.
For those of us who watched it live with our parents, like yours truly, it had the unique ability of bridging the generation gap. Kevin Arnold was dealing with all the same things I was. So, suddenly my parent’s generation didn’t seem so different from my own.
