Quantico Review: Drive (Season 1 Episode 20)
All is revealed! We know who the terrorist is!
And now, not only is Alex in a whole lot of trouble, but so is Ryan… and Alex is the one who got him into it.
So much happened on this week’s Quantico, entitled ‘Drive’, but first things first; It took me 20 episodes to figure out, but I have done so! The name of each episode is titled after the last word spoken in the episode!
I know.
Mind blow.
Anyways, when I found out that this week’s episode was called ‘Drive’, I thought Alex, or someone, would get kidnapped. And how very wrong I was.
‘Drive’ is one of the better episodes of the whole season. The pace of the episode is fast, cunning, and even the flashbacks serve a purpose. If the show writers can keep up with this pace, I can see this show running for quite a long time.
This show revels in cliffhangers and shocking moments, but an underlying theme this whole season is identity and trust. Do we really know a person if we sleep with them? Do we really know them if see them every single day for 6 months? That is what ‘Drive’ touches on. Specifically, with Ryan.
The big reveal happened this week, and it wasn’t Ryan. Somewhat predictably, the terrorist is Drew. The episode does a great job of making us doubt Ryan though and, of course, we get to see Alex do the same.
Even after their flirting and big declarations, she still finds it in her to doubt him; sure, she’s a bit pressured by Shelby and Drew, but she does.
But we can’t really blame her, can we? Because for a while now, Ryan has been doubting Alex. These two have such a complicated history, and are in such an unrealistic situation, that I do wonder what I would do if I was faced with anything similar.
Cue flashbacks.
It was so much fun to finally care about the flashbacks and this only happened because the flashbacks help us justify why it’s okay to doubt Ryan in the present; because he lied to Alex when he first met her, because he lied about Chicago, and because he covered for Liam.
So many things turn up in the flashbacks that makes us believe that it really could be Ryan behind the voice.
So, in retrospect, it’s a bit sad watching Ryan and Alex really fight each other because they do not trust the other.
Or can’t.
Because right after, we find out that Drew is the one (or one of), the voices.
The remorse we see on Alex’s face when she realizes that she may have just helped Drew frame Ryan as a terrorist is incredibly dejecting. And now she’s driving away in his car – that has a bomb planted in it.
As Drew put it:
“You already planted the evidence. Now all you have to do is support the narrative.”
The finale is only a couple of episodes away and things are really getting interesting now. It’s only a matter of time before we see if Alex can get out of this or not; and if she does, will she be able to save Ryan’s credibility too?
