Will Trent Season 4 Episode 15 Review: The Blank Expanse of Nothing

Reviews, Will Trent

Death has been chasing Amanda Wagner for years. It finally caught her on Will Trent Season 14 Episode 15, “The Blank Expanse of Nothing.” Season 3 ends with Ormewood and Wagner in critical condition.

Nonetheless, Ormewood seemed more likely to die. His life seemed more expendable than Amanda’s life. She has been such a critical and crucial part of the series from the start.

Amanda was one of Will’s emotional centers. Therefore, the show makes a huge decision by killing the character. It feels dark and hollow to lose such a key part of the ensemble.

Sonja Sohn has also done fantastic work as Amanda, so we wanted to see more from her. Obviously, Will sees ghosts now (in his mind), so Sohn can appear in that way.

However, “The Blank Expanse of Nothing” ends her story in such a heartbreaking way. It will take viewers some time to process it. It will take Will longer.

This move changes Will Trent forever. The show must reshape itself without this critical character. Kudos to the series for taking a chance, but we also hate them for making this move.

Since the start of Season 4, an impending death has haunted the show. We just expected Seth to become the victim.

The writers would be cruel now to kill the father of Angie’s child after killing a substitute mother for Will. Surely, they wouldn’t make that move?

Seth may survive until Season 5, but at what cost?

The overall episode doesn’t quite gain momentum until the end. Amanda’s death puts everything into place. Faith and Ormewood team up to help an abused and wounded girl.

This case matters because it gives Faith the clarity she needs to care about her job again. She now wants to stay, but we have to wonder how Amanda’s death may change her mind again.

The preview for the next episode shows action as Will intensifies his quest to save Antonio and bring Adelaide down. We expect the manhunt for her to increase, but we anticipate many emotionally charged moments.

The characters and cast must grieve.

RAMÓN RODRIGUEZ
WILL TRENT – “The Blank Expanse of Nothing” – Ramon Rodriguez (Disney/Matt Miller)

Ramon Rodriguez shows his acting strengths best when showcasing Will’s vulnerabilities. Rodriguez will likely give another top-notch performance in these moments of grief.

Our hearts will break alongside him.

Iantha Richardson, Jake McLaughlin, Kevin Daniels, and Erika Christensen will all likely showcase why they’re just as vital to Will Trent’s success as the lead.

To think, Season 4 starts so gently that you almost think the show may have lost its edge. However, the last several episodes prove why it’s one of the best shows on network television. We’re excited and scared to see how it all ends.

Overall, “The Blank Expanse of Nothing” isn’t one of Will Trent’s best episodes, but that final moment cements it in the series’s history as one of the most gut-wrenching and slightly cruel moments.

R.I.P Amanda Wagner. You will be missed.
