Powers: Everything You Need to Know Before Watching Season 2

Features, Powers

Imagine a world where superheroes and regular people, like us, co-exist.

We know everything about these heroes, including who they are and what they do…the good and the bad.

Let’s be realistic: if superheroes were real, they wouldn’t all be ‘super’ people.

That’s where Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim come in, detectives for the LAPD’s department that focuses on crimes involving these super-human individuals known as, “powers.” (Hey, that’s the name of the show!)

Powers is the first scripted series from the PlayStation Network, based on the award-winning comics of the same name, created by Brian Michael Bendis (Jessica Jones, Daredevil) and Michael Avon Oeming (Thor).

Powers takes everything you know about superheroes and tilts it on its head, making you second guess who you put your faith in to save the world.

Before you dive into Season 2 of Powers, which premieres on May 31 on PlayStation, here’s a guide to everything you need to know before watching!

Walker Lost His Powers

There was once a time when Christian Walker was known as Diamond. But all of that changed when he was stripped of his powers by his old mentor, Wolfe, Season 1’s Big Bad. (Get it? Big Bad Wolfe?)

Wolfe was defeated, but Walker remains powerless. His knowledge of powers and his old contacts make him the perfect person to investigate their crimes in the Powers Division.

Walker and Retro Girl Were Once in Love

As young heroes, Retro Girl and Diamond fell in love. After a falling out, and many years of awkwardness between them, Retro Girl and Walker are finally back on good terms with one another…until her untimely death.

Pilgrim Has No Powers

Deena Pilgrim is just like you and me. As Walker’s partner in the Powers Division, she’s new to the world of those with powers and as she learns more about them, we do as well. Deena shows us that you don’t need powers to kick ass. She can hold her own with the best of them.

Captain Cross Hates Powers…Sort Of

The law used to make sense to Cross. It was easy to distinguish good versus evil, black and white.

As he’s worked in the Powers Division, he’s learned that not everything is as easy to categorize as it once seemed. He’s the perfect man to lay down the law in the chaotic world of Powers.

Calista LOVES Retro Girl

Often clad in Retro Girl t-shirts, her big takeaway from meeting Walker for the first time was that he’s had sex with her hero. Calista, who gained powers of her own in Season 1, is young and full of hope, despite her dark upbringing. Calista’s fan-worship of Retro Girl will undoubtedly play a role this season in the wake of her death.

Zora Wanted to be a Celebrity

Some use their power to get fame and fortune, rather than using them for good (or bad). Zora suffered greatly from toeing the line of hero and celebrity when showing off her light bending powers during a fight with Wolfe, only to end up losing in a big way.

To be fair, she’s been groomed for greatness her entire life, an ingenue in the Powers field – and the pressure could only be sustained for so long. She’s currently confined to a hospital bed.

Kaotic Chic is the Worst

They’re the super organization behind everything, hellbent on taking down all Powers. Many of their followers have suffered personal losses at the hands of those with powers, making it hard to totally dismiss their mission, but the ways in which they go about their revenge are cruel and unjust.

They are obviously behind Retro Girl’s death, but who exactly is at the helm of Kaotic Chic? That’s what we’d like to know.

Just to help you get even more excited about Season 2, here’s a little preview trailer:
