Containment Review: A Sheep Among Wolves (Season 1 Episode 5)
Before we begin, let us have a moment of silence.
Containment will not be coming for a second season – at least not on the CW.
Sure, it was marketed as a limited series, but some limited series come back for a season two, don’t they?
Look at Claire Holt’s Aquarius; it was marketed as a limited series, but got a second season!
Anyway, what I’m saying is, I knew there was a chance that Containment wouldn’t be renewed for a Season 2, but I was hoping it would be.
Because we have a lot of TV shows about virus outbreaks but none that focus on the aftermath.
It would have been fun to see how this affected Teresa’s baby once it was born, and if Jake and Katie really liked each other or just formed a bond by the convenience of being trapped in the same hospital.
How will this effect Lex?
But alas, the CW has decided (in my opinion, a bit too quickly), that it does not want to see that.
It’s a shame really because this week’s episode entitled, “A Sheep Among Wolves,” is great. This show has an eerie way of making the audience know that the cordon is highly dangerous, and somehow has the ability to make us nervous all the time without making every episode action packed.
It’s the anticipation of all hell breaking loose just a breath away that makes this show so great.
And even though Jake is able to deter a gunfight with a gang, it just proves that people are starting to get restless; people are starting to go hungry.
I believe this is the first step to the utter chaos that we see on Day 13, and even though Jake doesn’t mean to, it could be his fault.
Backing off from that fight may lead others to believe that the police are not strong enough inside the cordon. They’re not wrong, but this sort of confirms that.
I’m not sure why, but the people doing wheelies in the garage of Jana’s office may find this information particularly interesting.
Jana proved herself to me last episode, so I’m not too worried about her when she says she’s going alone to get some food. But I know the guy she met on the roof is not just going to disappear, and I do think I see some eye sex happening between them in the elevator.
I’m not sure if the last seven episodes will touch on this, or if I’m projecting, but it would be nice to see if the relationships made inside the cordon hold up outside once the virus is dealt with.
Speaking of the virus being dealt with, I have another theory.
Dr. Canters? He made the virus.
That’s my theory, anyway. He just seems super stressed out (and sketchy), whenever he’s questioned about it.
And don’t forget that he said to Jake, “I’ve been searching my whole life for a virus like this.”
With Katie on a mission to figure out the truth, I think this could escalate very quickly.
Containment is getting better and better with each episode and I am very excited to see how the rest of the season plays out. Some of best seasons on TV shows are the last ones.
One that comes to mind is HBO’s The Newsroom, so I have no doubt that Containment can go out on a high note and just have us all wanting more.
