Blindspot Season 1 Episode 22 Review: If Love a Rebel, Death Will Render | Tell-Tale TV

Blindspot Review: If Love a Rebel, Death Will Render (Season 1 Episode 22)

Blindspot, Reviews

The patience of the last few weeks is finally paying off. Blindspot is starting to weave together its plot points just before the season finale.

“If Love a Rebel, Death Will Render” starts with a surprising revelation. Jane is mad at Oscar for his involvement in framing Mayfair for the murder of CIA Director Carter. She’s yelling at him when Sophia walks in.

Yes, you read that right. Mayfair’s Sophia is in on Jane’s plan. In a series of flashbacks, we find out Jane recruited Sophia into their plan.

A brief explanation of how Mayfair had to be knocked out of power for this plan to go forward follows. By the end of the episode, Mayfair is out of power all right. In fact, she’s dead!

For the most part, Mayfair was a solid character. Yes, she made some bad choices but we never really explored how she got to where she was. We saw Daylight, we know about Sal, but if there was more it never came out.

While the fact that she got taken out while she was investigating was a good and fitting end for her character, we still wish we could have seen more of her sassy self.

Here’s to hoping we get some flashback episodes so Blindspot has an excuse to bring back the talented Marianne Jean-Baptiste

One thing framing Bethany accomplishes is getting Weller into a position of power. By the end of the episode, he gets a promotion to Director of the New York Operation.

It’s a well-deserved promotion, Weller would make a great leader, but let’s be honest: this feels like a set-up for something.

The first tattoo was Kurt’s name tattooed on Jane’s back. If Oscar and Jane’s team wanted her delivered to the FBI and this is their plan, it sounds like Kurt being in this power position plays out exactly like they hoped.

What we aren’t sure they wanted was the suspension of the “Jane Doe Project.” Jane is no longer a member of the FBI, but she also isn’t who we thought she was.

Oscar confirmed Jane’s identity as Taylor Shaw earlier this season, but something always seemed off. They did a DNA test to confirm she was Taylor Shaw, but then Patterson tested isotopes in her teeth.

Both of these tests can’t be true and Papa Weller confirms that with a deathbed confession.

He killed Taylor. It was an accident. He buried her under the fort in the backyard. Her body is still there.

Now, we have a theory as to how these tests are coming back conclusive but also contradictory, but we’ll save that for another blog post.

In the meantime, is someone finally going to tell us what Orion is? Or do we have to wait until Season 2 to find that out?

Stray Thoughts:

  • Jeller kiss! The powers that be giveth and then taketh away. Go figure, it happened right before the deathbed confession.
  • Mayfair talks to her dog to figure out a case. Props for thinking to secure her ankle monitor to the dog.
  • The baby coming out of the the bag was a lot like Jane. The real question we have is: Who tattooed the baby?
