Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week: Clive Babineaux and Raven Reyes are our Characters of the Week

Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week

This week on TV, iZombie wrapped up its second season with one hell of a party, while The Magicians ended its first season on one hell of a cliffhanger. The second season of Fear the Walking Dead premiered, and it is already renewed for a season three. Orphan Black and all the Tatianas came back into our lives, as did Beth and Paul, at least for a bit. Bones and The Mindy Project returned from hiatus. The Blacklist did something completely shocking by killing off Liv, but there’s still hope she’s alive…right?

Below, some of our writers share their picks.

Best Moment

Christine: Greg singing “I Gave You a UTI” on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. First of all, the song is hilarious and genius. Secondly, Santino Fontana is so funny while singing it. His performance completely sells an already amazing piece of music.  And lastly, it’s an everyday thing, having a UTI; Greg somehow turns it into a sweet, playful, and just fun moment in general. Watching him engage Rebecca in a dance around her living room, while singing about his penis nearly killing her might be the happiest and most well-adjusted we’ve seen them both all season long.

Lyra: The gang walking into town on Legends of Tomorrow. The entire episode was a hot mess. Let’s get that out of the way first off. But this scene, where they’re all walking in dressed to impress, tricked me into thinking that something amazing was going to happen. I’ve got to learn that just because a group does a slow-motion scene, where they look absolutely badass, doesn’t mean that the rest of the episode will be. At least we got to see them play dress up. Ray’s been waiting a long time for this. *Runs off to watch Firefly. Real space cowboys.*

Allison: The moment when you realize that we were flashing back to when Beth was alive on Orphan Black. It was so unexpected and completely awesome. We caught a glimpse of everyone’s lives before Sarah came into play. We got to see people we lost long ago (PAUL!!!), and meet a clone that’s been important since season one but we’ve never really gotten to know – Beth. It also served as a great refresher on the Neuolutionists.

Ship of the Week

Christine: Rogelio and Michael’s “bromance” on Jane the Virgin. For all of its unconventional activities, that lavender bachelor party was really sweet. It was also really great to see them work things out and still stay #BrogeliosForLife by the end of the episode. Is it odd that theirs is my favorite “romance” on the show? (PS: You all totally thought I was gonna say “Grebecca,” didn’t you? I figured I’d change it up on you all!)

Lizzie: Claire and Jamie on Outlander. They’ve had their ups and downs, and yes, Jamie is still dealing with PTSD from what Black Jack Randall did to him, but that doesn’t mean he can’t appreciate the sight of his wife in that breathtaking red dress, or that she can’t get a little jealous as another woman recounts the days in which Jamie fought duels for her. And yes, we know though times are ahead, but we’ve got faith in these two. They can make it.

Allison: Alice and Christopher/Ben on The Catch. To her he’s Christopher, but his real name is Ben, so I’m still not sure what to call him. I guess Christopher? Anyways, Christopher proved that he isn’t a terrible person by giving Alice the check that the Princess wrote, and then Alice chose Christopher over the FBI. She tanked the entire mission for him because he still loves her, and she still loves him.

Outlander Season 2 2016

Character of the Week

Christine: Rob and Sharon both on Catastrophe. If you’ve never seen this show, it’s well worth your time. The second season just arrived on Amazon (which owns the series here in the US), and it was a completely gut-wrenching binge, watching Rob and Sharon tackle their marriage and parenthood while slipping right back into their old habits, pre-marriage and parenthood. They both give amazing performances that toe the line between funny and heartbreaking.

Lyra: Raven Reyes on The 100. Lindsey Morgan absolutely killed it as Raven possessed by A.L.I.E.. Every time I thought it couldn’t get worse, it did. From trying to kill herself, to nibbling on The 100 delinquents, this woman was going all out! She the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in A.L.I.E.’s book because she’s the only threat to the A.I.’s continued existence. Is that fear I detect in your blank expression, A.L.I.E.? Yes, it is. Good.

Allison: Clive Babineaux on iZombie. Liv dropped the zombie bombshell to save Major. After watching Liv stab herself in the gut, Clive accepted the fact that zombies are real. Then, he ruined his career and his relationship in order to save mankind. Everything that he has worked for, his reputation, his future career at the FBI, Clive threw away. That’s a huge sacrifice. Yes, saving mankind is definitely worth it, but it doesn’t make his sacrifice any less heroic.

Allison is in a love affair with television that doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. Slightly damaged fictional characters are her weakness. She loves to spend her free time curled up with a cat and a show to binge-watch. Allison is a Tomatometer-approved critic (Rotten Tomatoes).
