Castle: Stana Katic Not Returning for Season 9
Castle Season 9 may be a possibility, but if the show is in fact renewed, it won’t be the same.
According to Deadline, Stana Katic, who plays the role of Kate Beckett, was informed late last week that she will not be asked back for Season 9. Tamala Jones, who plays Lanie Parish, was told the same thing. Meanwhile, there have reportedly been negotiations for Nathan Fillion on a possible shortened ninth season.
Though Katic declined to comment on the circumstances, she told Deadline, “Rather then distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show. Thank you to the fans.”
Jones also made a statement to Deadline, saying, “I will greatly miss the cast and crew – it’s been a privilege getting to work with this incredibly hard working group of people. Thank you to ABC for this opportunity and to the fans for their unwavering support. It’s been an incredible journey and I can’t wait for what lies ahead!”
Tamala Jones expressed gratitude about her experience on Twitter as well.

Jon Huertas, who plays Javier Esposito, also took to Twitter today, sharing his sadness and his surprise over the news.

This is about the most disgusting thing I have heard about for some time! “Castle” was a great show but it’s heart and soul was the character of Kate Beckett. I heard the rumors before season 7 about Nathan Fillion pulling a diva moment and demanding that the storylines be about his character but I chose not to believe it. But when in season 7 the Beckett character was suddenly downgrade, belittled and seen less then usual I began to think perhaps there was some truth to the “Fillion diva” stories. Now it is obvious that the rumors were true.
It is sad that a studio like ABC can destroy what was once a great show, and anger their audience to please a big headed,middle aged comic. I used to like the guy but now it proves that he couldn’t accept a co-star that was more talented then he and he used his pull to ruin the show as long as he got the cudos!
I’m sure Ms. Katic will go on to better and more interesting roles . She and Ms. Jones have earned my respect. They seem to have integrity something ABC and Mr Fillion seem to lack!
