Quantico Review: Soon (Season 1 Episode 16)

Quantico, Reviews

There’s a reason why when Quantico first premiered it was compared every other show in Shondaland. It’s fast paced and somehow always manages to do something you’d never expect.

Which is exactly what happens in this week’s episode, “Soon.”

The absolute best part of “Soon” is that we are finally able to see what Caleb is up to in the future.

And… he’s a heroin addict!

Caleb has always seemed a bit shady, to be honest, with his whole “Mark Raymond” deal and being in a cult thing. But this is different. I know in the end he calls someone to say that Alex “bought it,” but it really does seem like his mom is giving him heroin to deal with his dad’s death and will not check him into a rehab centre until she wins her elections.

It’s a bit scary to watch, and even to think that her ambitions come before her son’s mental and physical health.

Unless this is all a ruse to take down Alex.

At this point, anything is possible.

Which brings me to that end monologue that Miranda gives Alex about the FBI being a man’s world. In my opinion, that monologue is beautiful but is given at the wrong time, within the wrong context.

Miranda just seems like a woman scorned, and the whole scene can be viewed as her just wanting some sort of vengeance after being removed from job, and even after having Liam on tape saying he slept with Alex. In reality, I think Clayton is right. Liam never says he slept with NAT Alex, just… Alex. It’s a reference to a vague event that could be very easily dismissed for being circumstantial.

Either way, this scene kind of shows us why Miranda broke Alex out of FBI custody in the first episode of the season. They are fighting for the truth, and that can be very difficult when you have an ‘old boys club’ stopping you at every turn.

Speaking of the truth, it’s a bit shocking how little “Soon” progressed with the storyline of Shelby being involved in the bombing, or being some form of terrorist.

I know the season is coming to an end very quickly, so some loose ends have to be tied up fairly soon, but I was looking forward to some flashbacks that hinted at Shelby being rogue!

Still, this week’s episode of Quantico proves it can hold it’s own, and can still manage to shock us. With us being in the last stretch of the season, I can’t wait to see what other surprises they have in store!
