Quantico Review: Answer (Season 1 Episode 14)
On this week’s episode of Quantico we see the effects that Natalie’s death on had on Alex.
Similarly, we see what the past couple of months have done to Simon.
And even though “Answer” tries so hard to show us that all these NAT’s are humans we should be rooting for, something falls short this week.
The episode starts off with Alex going to see Simon- and Simon’s in a pretty bad place. He now seems suicidal and well… he seems to have given up.
It’s sad to see Simon like this, but at the same time he’s been gone for so long that it’s hard to connect. We know he’s had it rough- and he tells Alex as such. She’s the one that told him to release the trigger, and that will haunt Alex, and Simon, for a while but again… it’s hard to connect with him.
Maybe it’s his impromptu hick accent? I don’t know. I just could not care about Simon.
Sadly, for some reason, it is also hard to worry about Alex. Last week, Priyanka Chopra delivered one of her finest scenes to date in the history of the show when she showed up at Ryan’s house. This week, Alex seems sad and she even cries a bit about how she’s not okay, but there isn’t that urgency anymore. There isn’t that feeling of fear, guilt, or even insanity.
Remember, she was about to let Ryan check her into somewhere.
How is it that she’s suddenly okay now? And how is it that all the other recruits are fine too? Sure there’s been a time jump, and yes- Alex and Simon were two of the closest NAT’s to the bombing, but they were all involved! Shelby lost her boyfriend and she just seems… mad.
These are people who we’ve seen do extensive research on Chicago PD cases gone south and dig into the background of their superiors.
Why isn’t anyone else haunted by this bombing?
Speaking of, I think I have become officially tired of the flashbacks for two reasons.
One, I don’t worry about any of the recruits, because I know they’re alright and alive in the future.
And two, the flashbacks seem childish in comparison to the future. They focus on New Year’s Day hook-ups, and broken hearts more than anything else, and I really just want to see it anymore.
Honestly, even Caleb’s weird “Mark Raymond,” bit is getting old. It seems to be dropped whenever the plot of an episode seems to be a bit thin and I’m worried that Quantico is really banking on the “shock value”, but too much shock value is overkill as well.
All in all, “Answer” wasn’t the best episode to date for Quantico, and could even be considered a filler. Nothing important really happened, but did get to see a glimpse of our favourite NAT’s sticking together, even in the future, and standing behind each other, no matter what- and I’m a sucker for great TV friendships.
