The Originals Review: Dead Angels (Season 3 Episode 12)
Broken relationships and where they go from now, amidst a sire line struggle, are the center focus of The Originals “Dead Angels.” Cami confronts Klaus on new ground after stealing the pale knight. Elijah and Aya’s past reveals bonds that go deeper than sire and progeny, and Marcel sneaks his way into leadership.
Let’s talk about it!
Cami is no longer going to be at a disadvantage when it comes to the Mikaelsons. She freely admits that not having the upper hand got her killed. This admittance is a giant shift for Cami. For so long she has made excuses for every single bad thing that has happened to her because of the Mikaelsons. This is Cami making a stand and saying no more. She feels fear for what is to come but continues to push for what is hers because she’s brave, determined, and knows the pain of loss.
Klaus refuses to give her back the objects she desires because if he gives in then he’ll be weak. He’s not worrying about others seeing him that way, just himself. He’s always been the one in power in their relationship. He won’t let her shift that dynamic. Not until she brings up why she is a vampire (jealous vampire ex) does he give into her request. Guilt and a smack at his pride seems to be the ultimate weapon against this Original.
Aya continues to use Davina’s vulnerable state and naivety against her. She tells her about Ariana’s death, one of the Sisters, to get her to side with the Strix. She doesn’t care for Davina. The concern Aya shows for Davina is selfish and only about her survival.
While we’re on Aya, she falls quite easily for Elijah’s game. She is still hurt by him leaving her in the past to survive on her own. He invokes the charter to buy time, play with her, and deal with something that plagues him to this day. It’s surprising how much he cares for her because all we’ve seen so far is indifference and aloofness when it comes to her. They’re not the enemies that they wish they were, because deep inside, they have an understanding and connection marred by hurt.
The best moment of the episode goes to Marcel. He takes something from Elijah and Aya because he wants control of his city. He’s still on Elijah’s side but he’s smart enough to make this move on the slim chance that he can be on top because the Mikaelsons always choose their own.
Like Cami, he is done being at a disadvantage. Out of all the leaders this city has had, he’s the one who cares enough to bind himself to his people; human, vampire, and more. All he wants to do is live and be happy. When all the trouble makers fall and this show comes to an end, he’ll be the one still standing because he has a clear focus on what he wants in life.
