The Originals Review: Savior (Season 3 Episode 9)
Let’s be clear about something from the start: Cami is NOT dead.
No way, no how.
The Originals episode titled ‘Savior,’ welcomes back Rebekah, Jackson, and introduces us to Klamille (finally!). Let’s talk about it!
Cami isn’t dead. Last week’s episode spent too much time discussing her inner darkness and explaining why Klaus loved having her in his life. Showrunners cemented the role Cami has in life.
This time around, he shows her that he can harness the good inside of himself and change Detective Kinney’s life for the better. He can be better like her, for her. When her throat is slit she’s entering the next part of her existence where that humanity he loves is going to be tested. Aurora is too calm and collected in this episode and that leads one to believe that she gave Cami her blood during her kidnapping.
The jealous vampire also compels her to kill herself after kissing Klaus and seeing how happy it makes him. Showrunners are not going to let someone who makes the main character question all the pain and strife he’s caused (and will cause) in this world go. Instead they’re going to make Cami into a vampire and have him try to teach her how to find her way back to the humanity he loves. Her undead existence will test what he loves about Cami.
Refer back to Rebekah’s words while fighting Klaus: “Dear sweet Cami. You’re so afraid you’ll ruin her. You keep her behind glass like some breakable object. She’s not precious. Nik, every woman you and Elijah bring into our lives turns to poison. She’ll grow toxic too.”
Rebekah is found just in time for the holidays. (There goes your grand plan Aurora and Tristan.) As usual, things go crazy ,and she’s cursed by the stake that put her away. Her words stick with the hybrid, resonate in the deepest parts of her, and will no doubt be on her mind as she struggles with grounding her marriage into the second part of the season.

The return of her curse at the end of the episode lands a grand blow to Elijah, who she asks to stake her again. Fighting him is her way of letting him know that she trusts him completely. Elijah knows the pain of staking siblings but does it because he loves her dearly. (Be prepared for angst overload as he holds the image of hurting his baby sister in his mind.) This satisfies one leg of the prophecy where an Original is staked by family.
As all things go in this show, Klaus will find out by accident sooner rather than later. Elijah will not burden him during his time of loss (Cami) with the pain of his little sister. It would break him, make him vicious, and ultimately bring on the rest of the prophecy.
Jackson becomes a part of the Mikaelson clan. Helping Freya is the wolves’ way of giving into instinct. Now he understands what Hayley has been fighting for and why she was willing to let her husband walk away, if only for a bit. Her instinct is to help Rebekah, Elijah, Freya, and Klaus. She does it all because they are her pack.
Hayley and Jackson will now be stronger because they’re on the same page. He’ll be in danger for sure — this always happens with the Mikaelsons — but hope is restored on having him around a little longer on the show.
Other Observations:
- Finn (Casper Zafer) might be around a little longer than expected. He cares for Freya deeply and will join Tristan to save her from death as the result of their siblings.
- Rebekah broke Elijah’s neck with a punch. BAMF.
- Removing the skull from Rebekah’s wrist was disgusting on so many levels. Thank you The Originals makeup team.
- The song that played at the end between Elijah and Rebekah in the alleyway is ‘Dark Days’ by TD Lind & Bernie Larsen.
- The Originals is moving to a new Friday spot when it returns next year.
