Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week: Once Upon a Time, Grimm, and Bones Bring Mid-Season Finale Shockers

Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week

For a lot of shows, it was time for the fall finales last week. This meant pain, joy, and usually a cliffhanger that left you yelling at your TV, “WAIT, WHAT? NOOOO!”

It’s always a fun time. There were some happy moments, but many of those were short-lived and overshadowed by the pain.

We asked our writers to share their picks from this past week in TV. Here’s what some of them had to say:

Best Moment

Lizzie: Oliver proposes to Felicity, on Arrow. I was sure the lie of omission of last week was going to sour the proposal for me, so kudos to Arrow for proving me wrong. Oliver bringing it up out of the blue would have been OOC, him doing it because Felicity confronted him with the truth, practically proposed to him herself and ALMOST died, that was perfect. His face was perfect. He reaction was perfect. The ending of the episode, however, wasn’t.

Ashley: Sheldon and Amy are back together on The Big Bang Theory! Thank goodness they didn’t drag this out too much longer. And the payoff of Sheldon showing up at Amy’s door and telling her he loves her? I mean, come on. It was adorable. I also don’t think they’ve ever had a kiss like that one on the series.

Christine: Although it was insanely sad, the moment when Killian died a hero on Once Upon a Time was amazing. I really hope that they get him out of the Underworld and that he and Emma can have a happy ending.

Allison: Supergirl/Kara telling Cat that she was a hero on Supergirl. It’s clear that Cat is a huge influence on Kara’s life, but obviously Kara can’t ever tell Cat everything she wants to. Supergirl can. Supergirl can show Cat how much her broadcast meant to everyone, especially to her. Kara’s relationship with Cat is my favorite part of Supergirl, and I’m so glad we got to see how much Supergirl’s words meant to Cat.

Lyra: Cami and Klaus kiss on The Originals. After seasons of build up it was so nice to see them come together. They challenge each other constantly and have come so far. Despite Aurora’s efforts they gravitated together and were happy for a night. Let’s hope this carries into next season when she returns as a vampire. We all know it’s true.

Caralynn: The ending scene of the You’re the Worst season finale, Jimmy and Gretchen’s I-love-you’s. It’s been a long time coming and this season was really rough on them but it matured their relationship in the best way. I’d almost forgotten that they hadn’t exchanged I love you’s before that point but wow, it was such a gorgeous moment. And it was so perfectly in character for the two of them to have it happen like that.

Most Shocking Moment

Lizzie: Rumple-freaking-stiltskin is the Dark One once again, on Once Upon A Time. I figured the Hook sacrifice was coming. He’d gone a bit too far in the penultimate episode, and the show needed to get rid of the darkness for good. But I didn’t see Rumple coming. Oh, no. Maybe I was too focused on the Killian feels, maybe they lured me into a false sense of security with the whole bear thing a few episodes back, but when Emma confronts him at the end of the episode and he pulled out the dagger? I wanted to strangle him. I still kinda do.

Ashley: Hodgins. Is. Paralyzed. Guys, I definitely didn’t see that coming. The showrunners on Bones kept saying there would be a major shake-up, but that wasn’t anything like what I was expecting. I’m heartbroken, but I’m also excited to see how his character deals with the change. I think it’s going to be really interesting.

Christine: Guys, God wasn’t the one sending Sam the visions on Supernatural, it was Lucifer. That sucked for me. I was really hoping that it WAS God and that this really was going to be a season of change. But no…here we go again, with Lucifer and Sam in the cage. I’m so upset about this.

Allison: JULIETTE IS ALIVE! But is she? The last couple seconds of the Grimm fall finale were shocking. But then, things got even more confusing when I read an interview with Bitsie Tulloch. Just because she looks like Juliette, doesn’t mean the woman in the wig who saved Nick is Juliette. I need Grimm to come back right now.

Lyra: Belle returning to Rumple on Once Upon a Time. She broke free! Finally she had a chance to leave Storybrooke and become more. She could do absolutely everything that she ever wished. Belle had confronted her past and realized that she had wasted a lot of time on a man who never changed. So can someone explain to me why she came back to Rumple?! It made absolutely no sense for her to return to this abusive relationship where he continues to disappoint her. If anything I hoped the time apart would make them stronger, wiser, more certain of who they were before coming back together later on in the season. I’ve lost faith in Belle as a hero.

Caralynn: I’m with Lizzie on this one. Everything about the Rumple twist on Once Upon A Time was shocking in the worst way. Shockingly repetitive. I’m so over this reunion-betrayal-breakup never ending carousel that Belle and Rumple are on. It’s been five seasons, this old song and dance is super stale at this point. Also after watching this half a season of Merida training Rumple to be a hero, it feels now like that was all a tremendous waste of time. Why is Rumple incapable of character development? Blah.

Allison is in a love affair with television that doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. Slightly damaged fictional characters are her weakness. She loves to spend her free time curled up with a cat and a show to binge-watch. Allison is a Tomatometer-approved critic (Rotten Tomatoes).

  • So Rumbelle is abusive but Captain Swan is romantic? I think you ladies need to take some psychology and women’s studies classes. The Twilight-like infatuation you spew over Captain Kilgrave every OUAT article makes me ashamed to be a woman. Please stop squeezing like 13 year old girls over that toxic ship while throwing hypocritical shade at Rumbelle. They are both abusive trash that demean women.
