Quantico Review: Go (Season 1 Episode 7)
This episode of Quantico picks up the pace again, and gets us excited about the show that has the general audience wondering if this is a show worth rooting for.
And “Go” proves that it is.
The episode is probably most entertaining one since the pilot and really reminds the audience why we’ve become so invested in it. This week’s theme? Trust.
In the flashbacks, we see the recruits have their “midterm”. This whole scenario is probably my favorite flashback to date, because the stakes become just high enough for me to believe something may happen, and I really enjoy watching everyone do something they excel at.
Alex leads, Nathalie sneers, Ryan agrees, and Caleb analyzes.
For the first time in a long time, it feels like a real training exercise that may be helpful in the field, and it’s nice to see them all come together. Now, watching Brandon plant a bomb in the classroom via surveillance is definitely worrisome. Sure, I know that they’re all alive in the present. And no, no one seems to be seriously injured or maimed, but I think I thought of seven different plot lines in two minutes, which resulted in Quantico blowing up or someone dying.
The characters are worried too! Whether or not I knew they were alive in the present, it’s visible, plain and simple on their faces—that in their world, they aren’t sure if they’ll survive this “exam.” It’s enthralling to watch and keeps you at the edge of your seat.
My favorite part of this scene is the underlying character development. No matter how many issues they have with each other, who slept with who, and who found out a dirty little secret, they all help each other the best they can to diffuse the bomb, which requires an insane amount of trust.
The second reason “Go” is probably the best episode to date is because we finally get to see what the twins have been up to after graduating Quantico. Yes. They both graduate, after explaining to Miranda that their peers should know there are two of them. Why? So they can earn their trust, and in doing so, become better agents. It makes sense, really and you can’t help but smile when Raina finally– officially– introduces herself to Simon. I can sense that I will be rooting for them a lot (almost as much as Shelby and Caleb—even after that), as the season progresses.
All in all, I enjoyed all 43 minutes of “Go,” and I can’t say that it’s been a regular occurrence. In a very long while, it seems like this episode proves why the show is worth watching.
Things to think about:
- So Caleb’s dad was fully aware of whom Shelby was to Caleb when they embarked on their secret love affair. Interesting.
- That fake scar that Nathalie is sporting is probably one of the sketchiest things I’ve seen—including Simon pretending to be gay
- Speaking of Simon… that kiss with Elias was oddly touching, and made me sad that Rick Cossnett is only a guest star. I like him.
