Supergirl Preview: She’s the Unexpected Hero

Previews, Supergirl

A girl from another planet, a dying planet, manages to escape from certain doom and finds a home on Earth, tucked away in a small town.

Sound familiar?

It gets better. This girl soon finds that she has powers beyond what anyone has ever imagined. But she isn’t looking to be a hero. Not really. She just wants to fit in.

We’ve seen this story before. We know the drill. And yet, somehow, we still want to see it again.

Enter Supergirl, the new heroine to join the already growing list populating our TV screens. Except she isn’t really like the others. And her story isn’t the one you know – or expect.

Sure, there’s the wonders of flying for the first time, the saving someone from a falling plane, the familiar costume, but there’s also a sister working for a secret government agency, the badass boss and Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) to play the role of Fred Danvers, Kara’s foster father.

And there’s laughter. Much more than we’re used to from the other alien in a red cape.

Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) isn’t Superman, however. She’s Supergirl. And whether that means navigating the same issues as her cousin, fights with a sister, teaming up with the government, or trying to find out what girl superheroes are even supposed to wear, we’re very excited for this chance to see a real kickass woman in the forefront of comic book themed adaptations — once and for all.

Give it a chance. It’s 2015. It’s high time for “girls” to be the ones with the powers. Check out the preview below:
