Sense8 Review: W.W.N. Double D (Season 1 Episode 7)
Well, I’ve been calling for forward movement with the overarching plot for weeks now, and WOW did this episode deliver!
Whispers, our resident Big Bad, made his first appearance since the pilot in “W.W.N. Double D.”
Kind of…?
Does it technically count if he was controlling the mind of a lobotomized sensate? Eh, I think so. Now all we have to worry about is if this whole “eye contact connection” thing extends between sensates inhabiting sensates.
This is definitely getting complicated.
I think Nomi – and her beautiful brain – are safe for now, which is a relief. Every good sci-fi show needs a hacker, and Nomi’s got that market cornered.
Amanita: W.W.N. double D.
Nomi: What Would Nancy Drew Do.
Amanita: I sense a costume opportunity.
Will, too, appears to be getting to the bottom of Angelica’s murder/suicide, thanks to some help from the street kid he saved earlier in the season.
Now that he’s got a picture of Whispers, let’s hope he puts it to good use!
Lito continues to be a bit of a trashy telenovela, with stalker ex-boyfriends, secret sex pictures, and coming out scandals taking precedence over any actual sensate business. On one hand, I’m a little bitter that Lito’s been relegated to such simplistic storytelling, but on the other… well it’s kind of a relief to get a simple story in the middle of all the madness.
Ask me again what I think of Lito’s plot when we finish out the season. I’ll have a better opinion when I figure out where exactly he ends up.
Elsewhere, Kala and Wolfgang continue their little psychic romance story, presenting us with another light break from a typically heavy narrative.
Wolfgang: So you think our connection is a kind of miracle?
Kala: If I were trying to describe this feeling… the sensation of experiencing the warmth of the sun, the smell of jasmine and marigold, while at the same time being soaked by a downpour at an out door cafe, the taste of strong coffee still in my mouth? I would say the word miracle sounds particularly appropriate. Wouldn’t you?
It’s unclear if Wolfgang will have much more time for romance however, now that Felix has been riddled with bullets in a drive by shooting. Those diamonds have landed them in hot water, and I’m officially worried for our little German criminal.
Thing are getting violent all over the place, now that I think about it.
Possible more gruesome than Whispers’ head shots or Felix’s drive by was Capheus’ meeting with Abaka.
Chopping off a man’s limbs for betrayal? Talk about retributive justice! It’s not likely that Capheus would ever betray Abaka to hurt Amundi, but that display probably wiped away any infinitesimal chance that ever existed. Watching a man lose his hands will do that to a person.
Other Thoughts:
- Who is the creepy woman mind stalking Riley?
- Is Sun going to have to slap a bitch in that prison?
- I’m glad Sense8 is teaching its audience how to break and enter. Good trips and tricks to know!
- Riley’s father is the cutest thing in the universe, no one can tell me differently.
