Game of Thrones Predictions: Reunion, Resurrection, and Jedi Powers
What? I said it was speculation time! You didn’t think that meant I was only going to speculate about Jon’s fate, did you? Oh, no! Jon Snow’s fate is the least of our worries, really, since we have already established that he is NOT dead.
Other Game of Thrones characters, however, are dead, and that leaves a few story-lines hanging and some of our favorite characters facing tough decisions about where to go next:
Let’s examine those, and try to come up with some plausible (and maybe, one or two far-fetched) theories about what could come next:
Daenerys/Drogon: This is one of the easiest ones. Raise your hand if you believe Daenerys will, at some point, convince the Dothraki horde that surrounded her, either by the force of Drogon or thanks to her charisma and Khaleesi-ness to join her as she tries to conquer Westeros? Yes? Yes? I agree with you. Not much to speculate here.
Jamie/Trystane: This could go one of two ways in my head, but I don’t think there’s any doubt that war is coming to Dorne. Cersei won’t let her daughter’s murder go unpunished. Jamie, on the other hand, could continue to walk in the shadow of his sister, or, maybe, he could break off from her once and for all.
I don’t see him as being unaffected by Myrcella’s death, but if he goes back to King’s Landing only for Cersei to blame him for what happened, he could potentially leave Trystane as Cersei’s weapon against Dorne and then ….go off …somewhere?
Maybe he could head for the Riverlands, where he was supposed to be during books 4 and 5. That could set up a nice possible reunion with Brienne, if she somehow meets Sansa/Theon and decides to take them to the few remaining members of House Tully.
Doran/Sand Snakes: Oh, bad things are coming. BAD THINGS. Did I say it’s going to get bad? Because it is. I don’t see much happiness ahead for the Sand Snakes in particular, not when Doran realizes that they were willing to gamble Trystane’s life just to get their revenge.
Doran looks like a cautious, maybe even weak player in this Game of Thrones, but, in this show, nothing is ever as it seems, and I have the feeling we’ll see a new side of Doran Martell come season six.
Cersei: Oh, Cersei is going on a rampage. No doubt about it. The High Sparrow, the Tyrell’s, they’re all going down. If we’re to believe the prophecy, this tale won’t end with happily ever after for Cersei, but she’s going to get some revenge in the meantime, that’s for sure.
I think Tommen is not long for this world, but with Mom on the warpath, he may still survive to be an ineffectual King for a while. And how the Jamie/Cersei story develops from here on out will be a BIG hint of what we can expect for her future. Not that I imagine they’ll ever go back to Season 1 days. George R. R. Martin is not known for his happy love stories.
Boltons: Ramsay will be furious to see that his new wife and his favorite toy have disappeared, but I don’t see that he’s got any chance of recapturing them, especially if they meet up with Brienne. Their fear of him should make them run far, far away from Winterfell. The question here is, for how long will the Bolton’s retain Winterfell? George R. R. Martin might not believe in happily ever after, but he sure does believe in revenge, and boy, is it time for the Bolton’s to pay.
Brienne/Pod: Wide open. Literally ANYTHING could happen here. They’ll meet up with Sansa/Theon at some point, because they’re too close not to, but then, what happens? Do they head for the Wall? This seems to make the most sense, Sansa does know that Jon is the new Commander of the Night’s Watch, and even if they were never close, Jon IS her brother (cousin, whatever), so it makes sense.
The question is, will they learn of Jon’s fate before reaching the Wall? If so, then maybe they WILL go towards the Riverlands, and my whole Jamie/Brienne meetup fantasy can come true.
Sansa/Theon: They’ll obviously survive the fall. They did not commit suicide. It makes sense for them to head for the Wall, meet up with Brienne and Pod and then, maybe, head for the Riverlands.
I wonder if Littlefinger will show up again, with armies from the Vale, or something. He’s been too quiet lately, and a quiet Littlefinger is a scheming Littlefinger. He did a lot to place Sansa in the North, and I imagine he had his own reasons for that. If there’s a man who doesn’t do anything for free, that’s Littlefinger.
Tyrion/Varys: Another fairly obvious one for me. We know Tyrion and Varys can manage the city while Daenerys is gone. In fact, I’d wager they can do a better job than Daenerys, since she never did know how to play the game. But there’s got to be more to the story. Either Daenerys will come back in little to no time, or something big will happen in Mereen. I just have no idea WHAT.
Jorah/Daario: They’ll obviously FIND Daenerys, either a “captive” of the Dothraki or exchanging tales about Khal Drogo. Either way, they won’t do anything much. Daenerys doesn’t need men to get her out of trouble. She has dragons!
Arya: Blind Arya won’t last for long. Or, if she does, maybe it’s a precursor to her developing the same powers as Bran and being able to warg into animals. Like …Nymeria, her direwolf, who’s been MIA for like four seasons. Either way, Arya is on the path to becoming a fearsome assassin, and I have to assume she’ll get there, but once she does how much of Arya is left?
It’s an important question that will probably have repercussions later on. If Arya disappears into No One, what happens when she meets someone the old Arya loved? Will she even recognize that person? Might that person be Gendry, who’s been rowing for approximately three seasons? Or one of Arya’s brothers?
It’s safe to say that as soon as she stops being Arya one of those confrontations will happen. That’s just what GRRM loves to do. MAKE US SUFFER.
Bran: I expect we’ll get Bran the Jedi Master next year! He’s been training for a while, so the transformation has to be the equivalent of when we see Luke at the beginning of Return of the Jedi. Bran is a big part of the story, and the fact that they sidelined him for a year means there’s probably a LOT riding on his powers from here on out.
Davos/Melisandre: Melisandre has to bring back Jon. Period. How she does that, however, is anybody’s guess? I’ve seen speculation that she needs blood for someone in John’s family, which could push Davos to go look for Rickon, but I don’t know if I believe that Davos would do anything Melisandre wants.
Either way, Davos has to pick a side, and soon, or he’s cannon fodder, so he might just pick Jon’s side because there’s nothing else for him to do.
And, there it is, an almost exhausting look at where most of the major story-lines are heading in Game of Thrones? Agree? Disagree? Have some cool theories? Share your thoughts in the comments below. We’re always game for some speculation!
Game of Thrones returns next year for Season 6 on HBO.
