Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 5 Review: Someplace Romantic

Reviews, Slow Horses

Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 5, “Sayonara,” puts everyone into place for the season finale. The answers are all starting to come together, and the bad guys are getting into position for one last fight.

The main downside of “Sayonara” is that the majority of the slow horses are just sitting around the safe house doing nothing. It is a waste.

If Lamb were paired up with someone, that would have helped a little. The closest we get is him calling Roddy for help, but it isn’t the same as if someone else were out in the field with Lamb.

Obviously, the safe house is going to be under attack on Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 6, “Judgment Day,” so the bulk of Slough House will have something to do soon.

But you still can’t help but wish that some of them were out there in the action doing something other than arguing in Diana’s house. Watching them bickering out in the field and begrudgingly working together as they try not to mess things up is one of the reasons we all watch this show in the first place.

It isn’t as fun when they are just lounging around trading snipes when Lamb, River, and Sid are out doing much more entertaining (and life-threatening) things.

River and Sid are the highlight of the hour.

They have such wonderful banter, and “Sayonara” really demonstrates what might have been between them if they weren’t kept apart for all these years.

Now, perhaps this is the paranoid TV watcher in me, but River and Sid basically confirming that they both have feelings for each other means that either Sid will die in the season finale or River will never see her again.

River can’t have happiness. That’s not in the cards for him, especially not during the season where all the members of Slough House are being hunted by assassins.

It says a lot about the nature of a show (or the paranoia of the watcher) that a moment like this can cause dread instead of joy. It’s well done, and it adds another bit of suspense to the show as we watch Sid and River make their escape from the airfield.

Now we just have to hope that whatever happens to Sid on “Judgment Day” isn’t too painful. River can’t really handle any more trauma right now. He won’t admit it, but he’s clearly very fragile.

Stray Thoughts

  • No one knows about Coe yet, and I am not ready for that news to break.
  • I wish more slow horses got the chance to interact with Sid.
  • How is that assassin still alive?
  • Diana might be irredeemable after sending Sid off to die.
  • Also, who did Diana have do the hit?
