Not Suitable for Work Canceled by Hulu After One Season
Hulu has canceled Not Suitable for Work after one season and just two months after its season finale.
Variety exclusively broke the news, revealing that “Warner Bros. TV, which produces the series, plans to shop it to potential new homes.”
Not Suitable for Work came from Mindy Kaling and followed five 20-something characters, navigating their professional and personal lives in Manhattan’s Murray Hull neighborhood.
Kaling shared some behind-the-scenes photos from Not Suitable for Work on Instagram. The caption read, “I love this show, I loved making this show, I love these people, and I love all of you for all your sweet comments, messages, edits and for watching @notsuitableforwork.”
The comedy series had its three-episode debut in early June, with its nine-episode season wrapping up later that month.
Deadline reports that Not Suitable for Work “was not a breakout but had done respectable business attracting viewers and creating buzz.”
Despite that, the streamer has canceled the show on multiple cliffhangers. For instance, AJ (Ella Hunt) and Davis (Will Angus) kiss just as Jack (Jack Martin) is realizing his feelings for AJ. Plus, Abby (Avantika) started pining for Kel (Nicholas Duvernay) by the season finale.
Now, all of that remains up in the air — unless Not Suitable for Work finds a new home.
The show also starred Jay Ellis, with Victor Garber, Greg Germann, Judy Gold, Ego Nwodim, Harry Richardson, Constance Wu, Laura Bell Bundy, May Hong, Bhavesh Patel, Emilia Suárez and Michael Benjamin Washington as recurring guest stars.
Kaling served as creator and executive producer for Not Suitable for Work. Executive producer Charlie Grandy was the showrunner.
3 Arts Entertainment’s Howard Klein’s also executive produced the show. Kaling International, in association with Warner Bros. Television, where both Kaling and Grandy are under overall deals, produced the comedy.
