Lucky Season 1 Episode 7 Review: All Good Things
Lucky Season 1 Episode 7, “All Good Things,” ends the season the same way it started, with high stakes and plenty of action.
Viewers already know something is wrong, but Rand and Lucky go into the deal with Priscilla and Wayne blind. If something goes south, there is no safe word that’s going to protect Lucky in time.
Agent Kershaw is there to assist with the operation. Except it turns out the person he’s really assisting is Wayne, and he’s been on the take.

Lucky’s story began with a betrayal when Cary took the money, and really even before then when John took the money. Now it’s one more betrayal that drives the finale of Lucky.
The look on Priscilla’s face when she realizes Wayne has been betraying her the entire time is priceless. Wayne chides Lucky for thinking she’s the smartest person in the room, but from a viewer’s point of view, she certainly seems to be.
You can’t ever say the finale is boring since it crams in the last-minute twists and theatrical-level action with a guns-blazing showdown. Even mean mommy Priscilla gets a sort of hero arc when she takes the opportunity to kill Wayne for betraying her instead of following his orders to kill Lucky.
Dutch, the extremely loyal henchman, also gets to drown someone in a vat of oil. This is not what you’re probably used to on Apple TV dramas marketed for women!

It does seem like a case of plot armor that Lucky could figure out, based on how quickly Wayne got information about Cary, that there must be a leak in the FBI feeding him intelligence. The only explanation is Rand is so blinded by her single-mindedness that she missed the clues Lucky picked up on.
Even with Wayne dead, Rand still isn’t happy (shocker). Her storyline ends on an unsatisfying note that she won’t stop until she gets Priscilla too.
The bad guys and law enforcement on Lucky never evolved from basic archetypes into interesting characters, which hurt the show’s potential in the long run. Annette Bening and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor deserved better than what this season gave them to work with.
The only character who does change is Lucky herself, and her ending is the most emotional moment yet of the season. After getting away with the money, Lucky reveals where the seed phrases were hidden in the teddy bear to John.
She wakes up the next morning, and he is gone. She doesn’t seem surprised though, and we see John driving away and playing the recording to discover Lucky recorded over it with a message of her own with the intent to turn in the money instead.

Under all the flashy crime drama trappings, Lucky is a story about the relationship between a woman and her father. The realization that John could never be the father she needed is crushing to her and the audience, but she comes out stronger on the other side.
“I love you dad, but you won’t see me again,” is a great note to end the series on with Lucky triumphantly facing the ocean.
