Claire Danes to Star in Romantic Drama ‘Lovesick’ on Netflix
On the heels of The Beast in Me, Claire Danes is set to star in and executive produce the romantic drama, Lovesick, on Netflix.
Deadline reports that the show is based on the series Choley Ahava, created by Rona Tamir, Tal Granit, and Sharon Maymon for Keshet 12.
Danes will play Annika, “a renowned breast cancer surgeon whose world changes after she receives her own cancer diagnosis,” per the character’s description. The series has yet to cast Nate, Annika’s new patient and a promising politician.

Lovesick “explores their interwoven lives, delving into themes of love, sex, illness, death, family, children, health, medicine, and the meaning of life — all while Annika is simultaneously undergoing breast cancer treatment,” per its description.
The straight-to-series order for the streamer suggests that more news about Lovesick is coming soon.
The series is not to be confused with the romantic comedy series of the same name, which is, strangely, no longer streaming on Netflix. The streamer commissioned its second and third seasons after Season 1 aired on Channel 4.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Netflix also streams a Korean drama with the same name and will stream a series from Mexico with the same title later this year. That’s a lot of shows named Lovesick.

This Lovesick series was created, written, and executive produced by Sarah Treem.
“I’m thrilled to get to tell this story with the genius Claire Danes. We’ve been looking for something to do together for a very long time, and this character, Annika, is perhaps a mix of both of our wildest dreams,” Treem said in a statement, per Netflix’s Tudum.
“To get to tell a story about all the things keeping me up at night anyway — life, death, children, love, middle age, courage, science and faith — is an extraordinary opportunity I don’t take lightly in these turbulent times,” Treem added.
Keshet Studios’ Avi Nir and Keren Shahar, as well as Peter Traugott, will also executive produce Lovesick.
