What to Expect from Doc Season 2 Episode 19: Next
It’s Joan’s last day as Chief of Medicine at Westside Hospital on Doc Season 2 Episode 19, “Next.”
On Doc Season 2 Episode 17, “Good Hands,” Joan finally admitted to herself that her illness had progressed too far for her to continue practicing medicine.
It took some prodding from Amy and reconnecting with her son, but at the end of the episode, she finally told the entire staff about her condition. She also told them that she would be stepping down as Chief in the coming days.
With her last day now here, Joan has one last task to complete as Chief. She has to name her successor. There are a few potential candidates already working at Westside for Joan to choose from.
The promo material says her choice is surprising, but given the hospital’s senior staff and all the baggage they bring, that doesn’t exactly narrow it down.
Elsewhere on “Next,” it looks like some tension is brewing between Amy and Jake. The two appear to clash over the treatment of a patient, with Jake finally losing patience with Amy’s tendency to buck protocols. The tension is so high that Jake even says they need space.
We saw what could be interpreted as a first little crack on Doc Season 2 Episode 18, “Orientation.” At the end of the episode, after spending the day with Michael, Amy declined Jake’s offer to come over.
She said it was just because she was tired, but that felt more like an excuse to decline the offer. While the conflict between the pair on “Next” seems unrelated, the two episodes together might mean the honeymoon period for this ship has ended.
Are Jake and Amy headed for some rough waters, or is this just a momentary blip?
