Law & Order Season 25 Episode 15 Review: Bright Lights
Law & Order Season 25 Episode 15, “Bright Lights,” is an engaging episode, despite a few setbacks.
“Bright Lights” has a compelling investigation, but it surprisingly falls flat during the trial, an unusual aspect on Law & Order.
Part of what makes the investigation so riveting is the dynamic between Theo and Vincent.

As Theo becomes more immersed in the homicide department, his dynamic with Vincent becomes more of a highlight.
Theo and Vincent have an easygoing chemistry that they portray effortlessly. It adds a layer of excitement to their investigations, regardless of who the victim is or how they go about finding the murderer.
Jessica Bradley: I don’t really trust a guy who encourages his wife to have sex with other men.
Another fascinating aspect of the investigation on “Bright Lights” involves the suspects. Regardless of who Theo and Vincent speak to — whether it is Bella’s husband, employee, or lawyer — each suspect is unfazed by Bella’s death.
It is quite different from Law & Order‘s typical investigations, and the suspects’ nonchalant attitudes suggest that something bigger might be at play.

Unfortunately, the nonchalance portrayed by the people in Bella Ross’ life does not pay off.
Once Jessica arrests Tate and charges him with second-degree murder, Law & Order Season 25 Episode 15, “Bright Lights,” falls a little flat.
While the trial is certainly interesting, there is no exciting plot twist or complex themes. The storyline is straightforward and to the point, which turns the episode stale.
A clear-cut trial could work on Law & Order if the investigation lasts for at least half the episode, if a plot twist has already occurred, or if the trial is unique in some way, such as containing an alluring suspect or victim.
However, “Bright Lights” does not fit any of these categories, which ultimately hurts the narrative. Furthermore, the trial disregards the suspects’ nonchalant attitudes, rendering one of the episode’s fascinating aspects meaningless.

Thankfully, Nolan and Samantha’s captivating dynamic on the second half of “Bright Lights” brings back some appeal.
Samantha Maroun: Oldest trick in the book: label a woman a whore, a successful woman a bitch.
Naturally, Samantha and Nolan come head-to-head in deciding how to compel a key witness to testify, sparking fiery tension that forces them to rethink their positions.
Once again, Nolan views this case as black-and-white, willing to do anything to ensure a successful conviction. On the other hand, Samantha is appalled at Nolan’s readiness to threaten the witness with a sexual trafficking charge.
Naturally, Samantha is right. However, it is certainly curious when she draws attention to Nolan’s motives, suggesting that part of the reason why he adheres so strictly to the law is for personal benefit.

Suddenly, Nolan is not as ethical as he presents himself to be. Some of his reasons for being such a stickler for the law are career-related, rather than ensuring justice is served.
This revelation illustrates Nolan’s complexity and forces him to rethink how he approaches the law. Hopefully, Samantha’s words will have a lasting impact on Nolan’s character, and he will consider different tactics when trying to ensure a conviction.
If that happens, it would also illustrate how much Samantha affects and influences Nolan’s ideals. For better or worse, Nolan and Samantha have imprinted on each other.
