Emily Deschanel to Star in NBC’s Crime Drama from Dean Georgaris and John Fox
Emily Deschanel is set to star in NBC’s new crime drama pilot from Dean Georgaris and John Fox.
The untitled one-hour drama is inspired by the work of expert profiler and author Dr. Ann Burgess, per Deadline. Variety reports that the crime drama was originally picked up in January.
Deschanel will portray Professor Georgia Ryan, described as “a trailblazing psychologist who challenges the field of criminology by shifting the investigative focus to the victim rather than just the perpetrator in order to uncover the crucial clues that more traditional methods leave behind,” per its description.

“Alongside her team, this pioneering expert consults with the FBI to solve the most baffling and elusive cases.”
There is no additional casting at this time. The executive producers include Georgaris, as well as Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and Fox. Burgess is attached to the project as a consulting producer alongside Steven Constantine. Universal Television produces the untitled series.
This comes after the news that Deschanel’s Bones costar David Boreanaz would lead The Rockford Files reboot. Deschanel and Boreanaz starred as forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan and Special Agent with the FBI, respectively, for 12 seasons of the FOX procedural drama.
Now, they’re both leading projects in NBC’s upcoming slate.

It also comes the same day as the news that Damon Wayans Jr. would lead NBC and Universal Television’s drama pilot, Puzzled. Based on Danielle Trussoni’s novel The Puzzle Master, the script from executive producer and writer Joey Falco follows Mike Brink (Wayans Jr.).
The titular character is “a former college athlete who suffered a traumatic brain injury, which caused him develop acquired savant syndrome — which gives him exceptional skills in puzzle solving, higher math, and pattern recognition,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
“He now makes a living betting on sports, but the show will have him using his rare abilities to assist police in solving difficult cases.”
Jordan Cerf of Linden Entertainment is also an executive producer, while Trussoni serves as a producer.
