Task Renewed for Season 2 at HBO With Mark Ruffalo Returning
Task, the original crime drama series, has been renewed for a second season at HBO.
Its seven-episode first season had originally been advertised as a mini-series, like creator/showrunner Brad Ingelsby’s previous HBO series, Mare of Easttown.
The series’ renewal, though, comes off of it being a major success. Task was “among HBO’s top three fastest growing debut seasons.”

“We knew well in advance of its launch that we had a powerful drama series on our hands, but it has been so rewarding to witness the audience’s fervor and embrace of this show as it grew week after week,” Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, shared.
“We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have HBO’s unwavering support of Task from the very first script onwards, throughout production, and during their extraordinary launch of our first season to audiences. They are an unmatched creative home,” Ingelsby said.
“On behalf of the entire Task team, in front of and behind the camera, I am honored and excited to get back to work on a second season of our show.”

Task follows Ruffalo as Tom Brandis, an FBI agent and former Catholic priest based in the Philadelphia metro area. While dealing with family drama, he is assigned to put together a task force. Brandis, leading a small team of local law enforcement, investigates a series of home invasions and robberies.
The first season followed, in parallel, the man Brandis was pursuing: Robbie Prendergrast (Tom Pelphrey), a working-class garbage man. He’s robbing the houses because they belong to the biker gang, the Dark Hearts, who murdered his brother.
Robbie’s revenge quest is complicated when one of the robberies goes sideways and the Dark Hearts’ young son, Sam (Ben Doherty), sees him unmasked.

It is not clear at this time what storyline the second season of Task will follow, or which cast members besides Ruffalo will return.
Ingelsby has also said previously that he considers Task to take place in the same world as Mare of Easttown (both shows are Philadelphia suburbs-set crime dramas), but he hasn’t conceived of a story to cross over the two shows.
Task Season 2 does not have a premiere date at this time.
