The Runarounds Premiere Date and Trailer Released by Prime Video

Prime Video’s latest teen drama, The Runarounds, premieres next month.

The new YA series comes from Outer Banks creator Jonas Pate, is set in Wilmington, North Carolina, and stars real-life musicians as the titular band. The Runarounds premieres its eight-episode debut season on Monday, September 1. 

It takes place the summer after their high school graduation, in which the characters form a rock band with their eyes set on stardom.

“With original music, romantic entanglements, and the raw highs and lows of coming-of-age, The Runarounds captures the rush of risking everything at the edge of adulthood to chase your dreams,” per its description.

The trailer starts with graduation and shows glimpses of what’s in store for the characters during that summer, like high expectations, romance, and writing love songs that could change the world. At one point, the band is pleasantly surprised to learn that people are not only listening to their music but enjoying it. 

The Runarounds features original music — “Funny How The Universe Works” is in the trailer. It and “Senior Year” are available to stream now and will appear on an album that will coincide with the show’s release. The latter is the first song written and recorded by the real-life band at the heart of the series.

William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher star as the band members. The music drama also stars Lilah Pate, Maximo Salas, Kelley Pereira, Marley Aliah, Mark Wystrach, Brooklyn Decker, Hayes MacArthur, and Shea Pritchard. 

Prime Video ordered The Runarounds to series in February 2024 and released first-look photos in June 2025.

“When we first met with Jonas and Skydance about The Runarounds, it was immediately clear that they brought us a special show featuring an incredibly talented cast and real-life band,” Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios, said at the time.

“We are very much looking forward to sharing the exhilarating journey of The Runarounds with our global Prime Video customers,” Sanders continued.

The show’s executive producers are Jonas Pate, Joon Yun, David Wilcox, Josh Pate, Shannon Burke, Scott Lambert, and Lisa Mae Fincannon, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television. Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance Television produce.
