Mark Ruffalo leads a task force investigating a string of crimes on the HBO Original drama series, Task.

The series is created by writer, showrunner, and executive producer Brad Ingelsby (Mare of Easttown). Task will have its series debut on Sunday, September 7, at 9/8c on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. Its seven-episode season will air weekly.

Ruffalo stars as an FBI agent named Tom, who “heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man,” per Task‘s logline.

Ozark‘s Tom Pelphrey plays the latter character, Robbie. The Task trailer shows that Robbie steals other people’s money to try to give his family a better life.

The trailer ends on what appears to be a tense confrontation between Ruffalo and Pelphrey’s characters.

Meanwhile, the trailer also suggests that Ruffalo’s character is coping with a loss when Martha Plimpton’s Kathleen McGinty asks him to be a part of the titular task force. TV Line reports that Kathleen is a career FBI agent, “who recruits Tom to head up the task force just as she learns that she is being forced to retire.

The outlet also shares that Mireille Enos will portray Susan Brandis, “Tom’s loving wife and the heart and soul of the family. She and Tom married young and [she] is the reason he left the priesthood.”
