9-1-1 Promotes Corinne Massiah and Elijah M. Cooper to Series Regulars
Athena Grant-Nash’s children, May and Harry Grant, will be around a lot more when 9-1-1 returns with its ninth season.
Deadline exclusively reported that the first-responder procedural drama promoted Corinna Massiah and Elijah M. Cooper to series regulars. 9-1-1 celebrated the news on Instagram, with Massiah commenting, “Ohhh we are going to have some fun.”
Massiah, who has portrayed May Grant since the show’s debut on FOX in 2018, was previously a series regular on 9-1-1. She recurred during the first season and became a series regular for Seasons 2-5.

Deadline notes that Massiah then stepped back to a guest-starring and recurring role when she became a full-time student at UCLA, from which she graduated two months ago.
Meanwhile, Cooper took over the role of Harry Grant on 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 4, “Buck, Bothered and Bewildered,” last year.
Marcanthonee Jon Reis portrayed the role during the show’s first five seasons. Like May, the character recurred in the first season before becoming a series regular for 9-1-1 Seasons 2-5. With Cooper’s casting, the character recurred for Seasons 7 and 8.
After reappearing on 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 14, “Sick Day,” both characters appeared on the final three episodes of the season, which followed the 118 family as they mourned the loss of Captain Bobby Nash. Peter Krause’s character was killed by a deadly virus on 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 15, “Lab Rats.”

The show returns for its ninth season — its first without its beloved captain — on Thursday, October 9, at 8/7c on ABC. As previously reported, that premiere date is a week earlier than the network’s original schedule.
It will be followed by the series premiere of 9-1-1‘s latest spinoff series, 9-1-1 Nashville, at 9/8c. It stars Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, LeAnn Rimes, Hailey Kilgore, Michael Provost, Juani Feliz, and Hunter McVey.
Massiah and Cooper join 9-1-1‘s returning series regulars, including Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Kenneth Choi, Aisha Hinds, Ryan Guzman, and Gavin McHugh.
Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and showrunner Tim Minear created the series. 20th Television produces 9-1-1 in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, John J. Gray, Brad Buecker, Lyndsey Beaulieu, Ted Griffen, and Robert M. Williams are executive producers.
