This Jason Momoa-led series is set on the islands of Hawai‘i and focuses on one warrior’s fight to unite the islands before Western colonization in the 18th century. Chief of War premieres with two episodes on August 1 on Apple TV+ with new episodes releasing weekly.

Series Description: Performed by a predominantly Polynesian cast led by Jason Momoa, Chief of War follows the epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonization of Hawai‘i at the turn of the 18th century. The ensemble cast includes Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, newcomer Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale‘o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka and Te Kohe Tuhaka.

Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest star in Netflix’s latest romance that is set at Oxford University. My Oxford Year premieres on August 1 on Netflix.

Film Description: When Anna (Sofia Carson), an ambitious young American woman, sets out for Oxford University to fulfill a childhood dream, she has her life completely on track until she meets a charming and clever local (played by Corey Mylchreest) who profoundly alters both of their lives.

The Pickup (Prime Video) – August 6

Russell and Travis’ shift gets a lot more complicated when their truck is ambushed. The Pickup premieres on August 6 on Prime Video.

Film Description: In the action-comedy The Pickup, a routine cash pickup takes a wild turn when two mismatched armored truck drivers, Russell (Eddie Murphy) and Travis (Pete Davidson), are ambushed by ruthless criminals led by a savvy mastermind, Zoe (Keke Palmer), with plans that go way beyond the cash cargo. As chaos unfolds around them, the unlikely duo must navigate high-risk danger, clashing personalities, and one very bad day that keeps getting worse.

Platonic Season 2 (Apple TV+) – August 6

Our favorite, slightly dysfunctional, best friends are back for a new season of shenanigans. Platonic Season 2 premieres with two episodes on August 6 on Apple TV+ with new episodes releasing weekly.

Season Description: Co-created, directed and co-written by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, Platonic season two picks up with everyone’s favorite pair of best friends (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) as they contend with new midlife hurdles, including work, weddings and partners in crises. The duo tries their best to be each other’s rock — but sometimes rocks break things. The season two cast also includes Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo, and introduces Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett as guest stars.

A new season means new mysteries at Nevermore Academy and even more Addams family members making an appearance. Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 consists of four episodes and will release on Netflix on August 6. The last four episodes will release on September 3.

Season Description: Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), returns to prowl the Gothic halls of Nevermore Academy, where fresh foes and woes await. This season, Wednesday must navigate family, friends and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem. Armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday is also plunged into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery. Creator/showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar return for the spine-tingling second season of WEDNESDAY, alongside executive producer and director Tim Burton.

Butterfly (Prime Video) – August 13

When his past comes back to haunt him, David Jung must do what he can to stay alive and keep his family safe. Butterfly premieres with all episodes on August 13 on Prime Video.

Series Description: Butterfly is a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage. It’s centered on David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca (Hardesty), a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him, and Caddis, the sinister spy organization she works for.

Peacemaker Season 2 (HBO Max) – August 21

Chris Smith might be in over his head for what’s coming since he’s now on the run, but fortunately, he’s not going to be alone. Peacemaker Season 2 premieres on August 21 on HBO Max with episodes releasing weekly.

Season Description: Peacemaker discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands.

Eenie Meanie (Hulu) – August 22

Samara Weaving stars in Hulu’s heist thriller that follows a former getaway driver who is forced back into her old life. Eenie Meanie premieres on August 22 on Hulu.

Film Description: A reformed teenage getaway driver (Samara Weaving) is dragged back into her unsavory past when a former employer offers her a chance to save the life of her chronically unreliable ex-boyfriend (Karl Glusman).

Humanity’s time may be coming to an end. Invasion Season 3 premieres with one episode on August 22 on Apple TV+ with new episodes releasing weekly.

Four retirees have taken up the hobby of solving cold cases, and they find themselves in the middle of a real-life investigation after there’s an unexplained death in their area. The Thursday Murder Club premieres on August 28 on Netflix.

Film Description: Based on Richard Osman’s international bestselling novel of the same name, The Thursday Murder Club follows four irrepressible retirees – Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie) – who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun. When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.
