Assassin’s Creed Adaptation Ordered to Series at Netflix
Assassin’s Creed, the highly popular historical fiction, action video game series, is becoming a live-action TV series on Netflix.
The news was shared by Netflix itself via Tudum and subsequently reported on by Variety. Netflix has been developing the show with the game’s creators, Ubisoft, since 2020.
The Assassin’s Creed games follow a secret conflict between two orders: the Assassins, who believe in freedom, and the Templars, who believe in order.

The games take place across different periods, following the conflict throughout history. They often feature real historical figures as supporting characters. Assassin’s Creed II, set in Renaissance Italy, depicted Leonardo da Vinci as an ally of the Assassins.
The setting also comes with a science-fiction twist. In the present day, Templar scientists have created a device called “the Animus,” allowing you to relive the memories of your ancestors. The games feature contemporary protagonists revisiting the past with an Animus.
Assassin’s Creed was previously adapted into a live-action film in 2016. Simply titled Assassin’s Creed, it starred Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. The movie told a new story in continuity with the games.

It remains to be seen if the TV series will take a similar path. However, the series’ logline states it will follow “its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”
Assassin’s Creed is being created by Roberto Patino (Westworld) and David Wiener (Halo). They will also serve as showrunners and executive producers. In a statement, the two called themselves longtime Assassin’s Creed fans and discussed why the story appeals to them. Part of their statement reads as follows:
“Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story — about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith. It is about power and violence and sex and greed and vengeance. But more than anything, this is a show about the value of human connection, across cultures, across time. And it’s about what we stand to lose as a species, when those connections break.”
Other executive producers on Assassin’s Creed include Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Ubisoft Film & Television’s Austin Dill, and Matt O’Toole.
