Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 21 Review: Baby Mine…

Chicago Med, Reviews

It is quite extraordinary that on Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 21, “Baby Mine…” Goodwin doesn’t shy away from the report Lenox brings to her door about the harassment Naomi suffered under Hayes’s supervision.

Once again, the show proves Goodwin will always side with her team regardless of what the board may think.

While it’s understandable that Naomi is upset Lenox filed a report when she asked her not to, it is also good to see Lenox doing the right thing despite the romance that was starting between her and Hayes. Instead of going for a storyline that would have played the “he said, she said,” the show portrays exactly what it feels like to be harassed at work.

Naomi’s fear of how she might be seen is a perfect representation of what happens to people when they speak up against someone in a position of power. But her story, as it often does in real life as well, encouraged other victims to speak up about what happened to them.

“Baby Mine…” doesn’t give Hayes the benefit of the doubt, nor does it try to spin the story around. It talks about the harassment, shows he is arrogant and believes he can get away with it, and delivers the justice the victims deserve. Chicago Med handles this storyline as well as it could have been handled.

Time and time again, Chicago Med has portrayed instances from the healthcare system to showcase how they can affect people. Naomi’s storyline isn’t the only one that talks about men who use their position of power to their advantage.

Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 21, “Baby Mine…” introduces a billionaire who doesn’t hesitate to use his money, power, and resources to get what he wants. It is clear that he wants to save his daughter, but instead of focusing on her, he focuses on his grief.

Not wanting to lose his daughter the way he lost his way, he experiments with her body. Ripley seems to be taken aback by the modern chemo-ports in the daughter’s body. But as the story goes on, we understand that the father does whatever he sees fit to try and save his daughter.

While this sentiment is understandable, and we empathize with him because we understand he doesn’t want to watch his daughter die, the empathy goes away when we see him use his power to steal kidneys from another patient. He claims all he did was get a second opinion, but it seems to be more than that when the kidneys flying in for one patient are redirected to his daughter.

However, because the kidneys were supposed to go to a patient Maggie was working with, we know she isn’t going to give up that easily. She promises the father that they will fight him.

Of course, we couldn’t finish the season without a pregnancy. There’s been a sick-out, near-death experiences, harassment, and illnesses, so the season couldn’t end without placing one of our favorite characters in front of a positive pregnancy test.

With how Asher’s storyline has been going this season, we can’t say we’re too shocked; it’s her. After the patient who died at her table had asked her if she wanted kids and she confirmed this when talking to Lizzy about being her surrogate, we knew it was a matter of time until it happened.

Knowing Hannah and everything she’s been through, viewers can expect her to be a good mom. However, we know the news comes when she is lost in her relationship with Ripley and will probably be afraid of what this pregnancy means to her sister.

While she doesn’t owe Lizzy anything and being her surrogate was a huge gift she would have given her, Asher might feel guilty for enjoying her pregnancy after her sister’s loss. It also changes her surrogacy plans, so that might make the relationship with her sister tense, which is something she wants to avoid since she just got her sister back.

But her relationship with Lizzy isn’t the only one Asher probably thinks about. How does she tell Ripley she is carrying his child when she doesn’t know if she still wants to be with him?

It will be interesting to see how she navigates this new reality and what that means for Ripley. Seeing him with Nate will probably help her with her thought process.

The baby news definitely affects the Asher, Archer, Ripley love triangle. While Archer will undoubtedly give her his support, does that mean the doors on that romance are closed forever?

Chicago Med Season 10 has definitely taken a turn and is nowhere near where it started. Lenox is the best example of this. Coming in as a character who we didn’t know if we’d ever like to end the season as likeable as she can get.

Her character has grown greatly in the last few episodes, allowing fans to understand her better. Now that we see her make a new pact with her brother and possibly get tested for the disease her mother had, viewers are sure to see another side of her as well.

Hopefully, the human side of Lenox will move forward into Chicago Med Season 11.
