The team takes part in another documentary when a familiar face goes missing on The Rookie Season 7 Episode 15, “A Deadly Secret.”
The police procedural’s connection to true crime documentaries stems from The Rookie Season 3 Episode 7, “True Crime,” which guest-starred Frankie Muniz. The show made the docu-style episodes a yearly tradition with The Rookie Season 4 Episode 16, “Real Crime,” and The Rookie Season 5 Episode 18, “Double Trouble.”
The Rookie veers away from the stylistically different episodes until “A Deadly Secret,” where Abigail Tierney goes missing six months before the documentary filmmakers interview the LAPD.
This episode marks the return of Madeline Coghlan as Abigail, John Nolan’s son Henry’s fiancée. Coghlan last appeared beside Zayne Emory’s Henry while he received emergency surgery for a heart condition on The Rookie Season 3 Episode 12, “Brave Heart.”
In the four episodes she appeared on, Abigail also expressed interest in joining the LAPD before seeing the intensity of the job and learning that a previous arson charge would impact her recruitment. She returns as the subject of a complicated missing person’s case after making a documentary about Westview.
The hospital first appeared on The Rookie Season 7 Episode 4, “Darkness Falling.” The show has revealed its connection to two serial killers — Noel Fisher’s Harrison Novak and Seth Gabel’s Liam Glasser. The latter is interviewed by the documentary crew and says, “The place is haunted,” in the promo video.
Enter: Watcher Entertainment’s Shane Madej and Ryan Begara, who appear to be guest-starring on The Rookie as themselves, filming a new edition of Ghost Files.
