Doctor Odyssey Season 1 Episode 13 Review: Spring Break
You can have fun but not too much. That’s the biggest lesson to take from Doctor Odyssey Season 1 Episode 13, “Spring Break.” We see varying levels of fun and all seem to lead to some major medical issues or some sad self-discoveries.
This proves that no matter how much or how little fun you have, life catches up to all.
Tristan’s alcoholism becomes the focal point and most fascinating piece of “Spring Break.” We only know him as this fun, charismatic nurse with mommy baggage. At no point do we suspect alcoholism until episode 13.

He has engaged in reckless and careless behavior, but this seems like the folly of youth — not an emerging addiction.
Despite Doctor Odyssey’s lack of significant forewarning, the show has a chance to add some dramatic weight. Overall, this ABC dramedy has been quite silly, with only a few moments of intensity.
However, this talented cast may finally have an opportunity to demonstrate their top-notch acting skills.
Sean Teale gets to showcase his theatrical abilities by adding more layers and dimensions to Tristan. Tristin has always fascinated but rarely gets to stand out of the shadows of this Avery and Max triangle.
His love life has been far too focal and not enough with his life beyond his bedmates.

Therefore, Doctor Odyssey can finally lift up Teale as not just a supporting character but as the critical part of the show that he’s already been.
Joshua Jackson and Phillipa Soo are the main male and female leads, but Teale doesn’t seem too far behind them in terms of importance to this TV show.
This story doesn’t work without all three characters. It’s a throuple even if it doesn’t officially declare itself as one.
There is an understanding and bond there that goes beyond coworkers. Plus, we already know about the threesome — but not the full details of it.
The intimacy cross-pollinates.

Tristan’s sobriety storyline could be a much-needed transition for the series to balance drama and comedy more realistically. The show often goes over the top with medical emergencies and melodrama, but a simple story of someone becoming sober can add some levity to Doctor Odyssey.
The stakes often feel low on this show, even when something dramatic happens. You never really expect a bad outcome. However, so much can happen to Tristan because of this problem.
He may lose it all if he cannot control it.
The Tristan storyline is a step in the right direction for Doctor Odyssey. However, overall, “Spring Break” feels like a return to form for the freshman series.

We even have a case of a man who cannot stop ejaculating. We’re not shocked anymore when stuff like this happens in the series.
Doctor Odyssey is a very horny show, so you can only expect sexual plotlines, and this uncontrollable ejaculation may not even be the horniest storyline we’ve seen or yet to come.
The three young women lusting after Max may have been worse, especially with him not feeding into it but not exactly rejecting it.
Just gives him creepy older man vibes. It doesn’t come off as endearing and fun as the writers may think.
Max is also shown as the more mature option of Avery’s two choices, but he often seems immature and better at hiding it than Tristan.

Overall, “Spring Break” is as silly and frivolous as expected, with just a tiny hint of maturity. It’s not as interesting as the previous episodes in the second half of the season, but still not a major fall back to the initial issues of Doctor Odyssey.
It’s an okay episode with a very interesting next chapter for Tristan.
