
Watson Renewed for Season 2 at CBS
Dr. John Watson has more medical mysteries to solve.
The freshman drama series Watson has been renewed for a second season by CBS. The network has shared that the upcoming season is expected to be broadcast during the 2025/2026 TV season.
Starring Morris Chestnut in the titular role, the series picks up six months after John Watson’s friend and partner, Sherlock Holmes, dies at the hands of Moriarty. Dr. John Watson resumes his medical career at a clinic that works to treat rare disorders.

CBS ordered Watson to series — with Chestnut attached in the lead role — in January 2024. As previously reported, the series debuted a year later with Watson Season 1 Episode 1, “Watson,” in January 2025.
The episode premiered after the AFC Championship game and “has been seen by 18.7 million multiplatform viewers in live plus 35 days of viewing, making it CBS’ most-watched scripted episode of the 2024-25 season,” per CBS.
CBS also shares that Watson “averages 6.79 million viewers each week according to Nielsen season-to-date most current data.”
With its renewal, Watson joins the following recently renewed CBS shows: Tracker, Elsbeth, Ghosts, Fire Country, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, NCIS, NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Sydney, Matlock, and Hollywood Squares.

The drama’s renewal also comes after Watson Season 1 Episode 7, “Teeth Marks,” aired on Sunday, March 23, at 9/8c on CBS. The show continues its 13-episode debut season with Watson Season 1 Episode 8, “A Variant of Unknown Significance,” on Sunday, March 30.
Alongside Chestnut, the series stars Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Inga Schlingmann, Ritchie Coste, and Rochelle Aytes.
Craig Sweeny serves as the showrunner and executive producer.
The show’s other executive producers include Morris Chestnut; Sallie Patrick; Larry Teng; Shäron Moalem MD, PhD; Aaron Kaplan for Kapital Entertainment; and Brian Morewitz. CBS Studios produces Watson, with Paramount Global Content Distribution distributing.
