The Pitt Season 1 Episode 13 Recap: Robby Reaches His Breaking Point

Recaps, The Pitt

The Pitt Season 1 Episode 13, “7:00pm,” picks up where we left off after the conclusion of The Pitt Season 1 Episode 12. The medical team is still deep in the carnage left behind by the mass shooting at PittFest. The big difference is that they are able to restock some of their supplies, so they have everything they need… for now.

Tensions are high as rumors of the shooter possibly arriving at the emergency room remain. This episode serves as a reminder that even though a week has passed between episodes, it’s only been an hour in The Pitt universe.

Whitakker takes care of a patient named Carmen, who is Puerto Rican like yours truly, and tries to calm her nerves by asking her to describe tembleque, the food she is selling at the festival and also the best dessert in the world.

Whitakker showcases that despite the rough beginnings, all that hardship prepared him for the crisis that they are in right now, he is more confident and not cracking under the pressure.

It’s a sigh of relief when Jake finally shows up to the pitt; he’s okay, but his girlfriend, Leah, is badly hurt. Robby becomes focused on saving Leah, but unfortunately, she doesn’t make it.

Robby having to call Leah’s time of death reminds him of when he also had to do the same for his friend Dr. Adamson. We knew that Robby was going to go through another tragedy during this shift, but it being Leah and him having to deliver the news to Jake is unexpected.

Robby finally breaks down from all the guilt he has been carrying all season, heightened by not being able to save Leah. Why did this particular death hit him hard? He was supposed to go to the festival with Jake, so he does feel like he could’ve saved her had he gone in her place.

There is something especially devastating about the pediatrics room that is decorated with colorful animals to be the place where the bodies are brought to be identified and for it to be the place that is associated with most of Robby’s trauma.

Him finally being overpowered by his emotions in the same place where he lost his friend on the anniversary of his death is heartwrenching.

This was an event that was due to arrive at any moment, and now that it has, it serves as a reminder of the humanity of the characters. You can’t help but think about all the healthcare providers who face something like this constantly.

There are still no answers to who the shooter is, but it’s looking like it’s not David. With only two episodes left, we will find out soon enough.
