Preview — 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 9: The 118 Returns from Hiatus

After more than three months away, the 118 returns to our TVs on 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 9, “Sob Stories.”

The anticipation has been building for the show’s return since 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 8, “Wannabes,” aired in November 2024. Not only does that episode introduce the storyline of Eddie choosing to move to Texas to be closer to Christopher, but its ending also leads to a concerning promo video.

Before unpacking all that, “Sob Stories” seems to pick up where “Wannabes” leaves off with Eddie’s move. The photos appear to show Eddie saying goodbye to his 118 family while he, presumably, returns his uniform.

So, it seems safe to bet that the animal shelter fire, which Eddie is present for, happens earlier on “Sob Stories.” That structure also makes sense if 9-1-1‘s serial killer storyline takes up more of the episode. It’s what the promo videos for “Sob Stories” focus most on, after all.

Those videos give a glimpse of Bobby supporting Athena when she believes “something’s not right.” Likewise, they show Chimney sticking by Maddie. He even says, “I’m not leaving your side while there’s a serial killer with a grudge still on the loose.” Given Maddie and Chimney’s history on 9-1-1, who can blame him?

The new 9-1-1 Season 8 trailer, which includes new scenes from “Sob Stories,” concerningly ends with Maddie’s scream after being kidnapped. Luckily, that trailer also confirms that this episode is one part of 9-1-1‘s two-part return, so there is plenty of time for Maddie — and the baby — to make it out of this.

Episode description:

The 118 responds to a fire at a local animal shelter and races to evacuate all the animals. Meanwhile, Maddie takes a 9-1-1 call that sets her on a quest for answers.
